Vehicle Detail
Decided to sell our 1957 Mercedes-Benz 220S. This car is a real head turner. Problem is, we are not driving her as much as she deserves to be. I will try to include everything I know about this car so we can all be happy the the right person has purchased it. I do not want either of us to have any remorse. The Bad:Titled as a 1958 for some reason. the Chassis # and VIN plate clearly show this is a 1957 should be an easy fix with a vin inspectionCosmetically the red paint is bright but has small chips missing mostly on the hood but also a few other places (see pics). also some of the black rubber moldings around the glass were painted red when they should not have been. No keys for the doors, trunk, or fuel door. Should not be difficult or too expensive to have a lock smith make We never had a need as it is garage kept. Trunk latch needs repaired/replaced. it just lifts up now (dose not come open while driving)No radio is installed. The original radio is included but it will need to be repaired (can give the name of the best radio repairman in the business). We had plans to install a newer one but never got around to it.Front passenger window crank has a tendency to fall off. (just needs a new clip)The elastic on the front door pockets is shot so the pockets stay open (see pics). no problem just a little annoying to me.No Choke cable installed. Have all the pieces for the dash but no cable (cheap repair). We were going to replace it with the radio and was never an issue because we only drive it in good weatherSpeedometer cable whines at high speeds.Small rip in the head liner where somebody tried to fix the wires to the dome lightDome light does not work The passing lights lever (where the turn signals lever a a regular car would be) does not work properly. Turn signals work fine off the switch in the horn ring. the indicator in the dash, only blinks when right signal is on not left signal is on for some reason.I have not been able to get the fog lights to work. Headlights and brights work fine.Gas gauge is jumpy under a quarter tank Carpet is clean and matches the interior, but is cheap (in my opinion) and does not fit well. The wood dash is complete and cleans up nicely, but is cracked in a few places.Tires have plenty of tread but some cracking as well. One tire has a slow leak at the rim and needs filled once a week.Starter has not been engaging on the first press of the button every time, and may need replaced sometime in the future.I was told the motor mounts are bad.The car is supposed to do 100mph per the factory literature, I have only been able to get it to 80mph with the pedal on the floor and a strong tail wind. Needs new spark plug wires (still runs but they are old and I always meant to put some on) cap rotor, points, and spark plugs are a little over a year old.I was told (when we bought it) the engine is not original to this car. It is the right type and looks correct but was changed four or five years ago. (not very well either) I had to install and tighten many bolts that were left out or left loose. The good:Everyone will be really jealous of your new super cool classic MercedesThe red leather interior is in great shapeThe water pump is just over a year old The brake Booster was rebuilt six months agoFresh brake and fuel lines underneath Little to no rust (some surface rust in trunk under mat)All lights work (even reverse) except fog lights To my knowledge all trim and moldings that should be on it... are on it and in good shapeAll chrome is in good shapeAll the windows work and are in good shapeHas removal seat belts for the front seats Starts, drives, and stops safelyPontons are very a desirable Mercedes, quality parts and service are not difficult to findThis is a great car, would make a good daily driver the way it is,a GREAT daily driver with a little work, and a fantastic show car with minimal work and money (comparatively speaking) I also have contact information for the best shops/part suppliers/technical information. We love it and will sad to part with this gem, but she deserves better than what we have been giving her.I will be more than happy to answer any questions not already answered or post pictures more of anything that is of a particular interest to a bidder. I can help find a shipper and meet them to help load if need be. Serious bidders only please Good luck and happy bidding On Apr-30-14 at 20:53:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Decided to sell our 1957 Mercedes-Benz 220S.
