Vehicle Detail
1968 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback, 68,795 actual mileage. Exterior has been repainted Ford Performance White and is in good shape; only rust is on the inside lip of the deck lid, but easy repair. Thunderbolt style hood, two small cracks in fiberglass hood scoop/riser. Both bumpers have been re-chromed, new chrome mirrors, exterior trim all good. Interior is clean and in good condition, small tear in driver side seam of front seat and door arm rest, back seat has no tears. New carpet and dash topper. A.M. Radio does not work, wipers work but need new activation switch. All glass is in good shape with the exception of a scratch on the windshield from a bad wiper blade. Heater is not functional due to heater hoses being disconnected (car only driven in warm weather and garage kept). New Sunpro Gauges (Temp, Volt, Oil). All 4 headlamps function, however headlamp doors vacuum actuation module is disconnected but have all parts for easy install. New 4 wheel drum brakes, with power boost assist added. Suspension and undercarriage are in excellent condition, rear air shocks, fresh Ziebart corrosion protection & undercoating with lifetime warranty. 15" Cooper tires (wide rear 60’s) with very little tread wear; mounted on Cragar SS chrome rims, minor rust on right front, all others in excellent condition. Rebuilt 460 ci engine bored .030 over (dyno tuned). Rebuilt C6 Transmission has fiber clutches to handle the torque of the engine. 6K miles since rebuild, engine runs excellent, no leaks, and sounds like rolling thunder with a custom 3" dual exhaust. Car has plenty of power but has been gently driven as a street cruiser and never taken to the drag strip. Fast 0 to 60, Really Fast 60 to 100. VEHICLE HISTORY: Here is the history I know for this vehicle. I purchased the car in 2009, so I’ve had it 5 years, and during that time I’ve driven it 1,100 miles. I installed new brake shoes and rear wheel cylinders, 950 cca battery & cables, Zebart rust proofing & undercoating, and replaced the rear-end center unit with identical 9 3/8” and 2.80 gear set. Prior owner, Rick, purchased in 2006 and owned for 3 years. Car was appraised for $14.5K in 06’, when the market was a little friendlier. Rick added the aluminum fan, sunpro gauges, mirrors, dash topper, rear deck carpet, tightened the steering gearbox, and front end alignment.Carl owned the vehicle before Rick, and he was the mechanic who rebuilt the 460 engine and C6 tranny. The valves and keepers in the heads were changed to use unleaded gas. He also had the bumpers re-chromed, new carpet, and the performer white paint job. The original color was either green or purple, not certain which, but I know it was a dark color. The white is fairly thick on the top surfaces and in good shape, but thinner on the underside of the hood and deck lid.I believe the car originally had the Bix Six 240 with a three speed manual. I do not have the original powertrain. This model was not equipped with power assist steering, probably because it only had the weight of a 6 cylinder engine and trans rather than the big block, but it still steers well. The 460 is substantially modified and is a very strong runner, so much that I suspect the dyno numbers may be a bit lower than the actual HP and torque being output. The car is really set-up as a hot rod. Body and frame are very solid and clean. Brakes work very well, and the suspension is smooth like an old Lincoln continental, so it rides really nice and tracks straight. It’s a great cruiser and fun to drive around town, on the highway, and to the local car gatherings. Let me know if you have any questions.
