OK. This is a true NO RESERVE, 7 day Auction. Some lucky bidder will own this rare exotic bike soon. Important: This bike has a BRAND NEW Engine that was lightly broken in by J.R. Luksik - then upgraded with the heavy duty rods, custom pistons, etc. detailed below. The engine alone represents a $7K+ investment to duplicate ....assuming you could find another brand new engine! There are only approximately 1,850 miles total on this engine since new! You will not find another bike like this! Turbo CBXs are fairly common, but supercharged CBXs are very rare. To my knowledge - only 5 supercharged CBXs have ever been built ...all quite different. One of them was a top fuel drag bike, so there have been only 4 street-going blown CBXs. This one is unique in many respects. I run a business focused on restoration resources for vintage Hondas including the CBX: www.randakks.com and I’ve built several supercharged show bikes to promote the business. This bike is from my personal collection. Unique machine for the collector who wants a special bike that goes as good as it looks. Draws a crowd wherever it appears. Proprietary "one-off" supercharger setup. Build cost exceeded $30K+. Luksik of CBXtras This particular bike has a very interesting history. I acquired it via friend and noted CBX wizard J.R. Luksik who owns CBXtras. J.R. did a minor rejuvenation of a well-maintained “school bike” that was not uncrated and put into service until some time in the mid 90‘s. The whole bike was transferred to a titled 1982 frame to make it legal at that time. We took delivery and freshened it up in 2008. Over a 3 year period, I designed and installed the draw-through, Roots style blower system. I’ve used these Fageol blowers on other bike projects. They are a superior supercharger made to the highest standard. Mark Fageol created a custom-length “drive” for this particular application. The blower setup on this CBX is unique in that it is driven off the engine’s jackshaft via a very elegant and robust drive system. We decided not to drive off the crank as that would make an already wide engine unacceptably wider. Max boost is set at a very conservative 4 psi. Via easy pulley swaps, this could be easily bumped to about 8-9 psi without any other mods. Beyond that level, you would need elaborate (and expensive) additional mods (such as a reinforced crank and additional detonation control strategies) to handle higher levels of power output. I’ve never dyno’d this bike. Boost charts show that it should make about 128 horsepower at 4 pounds boost. That matches my “seat of the pants” dyno. I already have way more bike than rider - so I’ve never had any interest in boosting the power level beyond the current level. The beauty of a blower bike is that unlike a turbo bike, boost is immediate, linear and right now. It builds rapidly beyond 1/4 throttle. On the road, the experience is very locomotive like. Gear shifting becomes way less important on this CBX! In fact, when we installed the new “built” high-spec engine last summer, I richened up the main jet circuit and restricted the full throttle opening about 15% to protect the engine during the break-in period. It’s runs so well at that calibration, that I have not undone those safety measures yet. It was a huge challenge, but great pains were taken to make NO changes whatsoever to the CBX frame, running gear, hardware, etc. The bike could easily be reverted back to 100% stock condition if that were ever desired. Since I’ve owned the bike, I’ve used it for mainly for pleasant rides in good weather. It has also served as one of my principal show bikes and the guinea pig for lots of CBX R&D here at Randakk's Cycle Shakk. The supercharger setup is my own design. The fabrication involved many talented people ...especially J.R. Luksik. This is a well-maintained bike. It is not a restored bike. The paint and chrome are outstanding given the age. It does have very slight patina of use for a bike manufactured in 1981/82 that is still ridden regularly ...with care by a notoriously knowledgeable enthusiast. No antique bike is perfect, but this one is in excellent mechanical condition. I’ve just done an oil/filter change. I run premium, non-ethanol fuel with STABIL year round in this bike. I rotate out the “winter” fuel each Spring and burn in my truck. Fresh fuel is now in the bike. It was a beautiful Spring day here yesterday and I enjoyed another great spirited ride on this amazing bike! This bike has been built to a high-standard. Many very smart contributors helped me execute an ambitious design. I consider it sturdy and reliable, but here are some reasons not to buy this bike! It’s rare and has many “one-off” parts. Replacing them would be complicated and expensive if that ever become necessary. Excellent self-sufficient mechanical ability will be a necessity for the new owner. There are very few “mechanics” qualified to touch this bike. Blower bikes require extensive routine maintenance. Blower bikes have very specific cold and hot “starting drills.” Blower bikes are a bit finicky and are not happy to idle much. They are not appropriate for “parade duty” by pokey riders. I like to tinker. I generally tweak some small thing or another after every ride. The new owner will need that point of view. The riding position is a bit cramped on the right side due to the carb’s location. I have adapted to this limitation, but it would be uncomfortable for most riders planning to cover significant distances. It would not work at all for riders taller than me (5’11”). My riding style favors skinny tires, too much power and overly-powerful brakes. I’ve set up this bike to match my preferences. This might not be the most forgiving setup for other riders. The overall performance level is beyond the ability level of many riders. Throttle is very sensitive. The bike “complains” if the throttle is whacked open indiscriminately. Like most exotics, this one has a personality that is a bit “raw.” It would benefit from continued development to make it more “civilized.” Not recommended if unintentional first gear wheelies would cause you any panic. It’s geared slightly “taller” than normal to mitigate that tendency. I want a buyer who will appreciate, maintain this bike properly and ride it. Don’t buy it if you plan to park it, neglect the fuel and gum up the carb. That would be criminal! More on fuel issues: http://www.randakksblog.com/more-on-fuel-and-fuel-additives-fear-the-corn/ Auction Details: Quirks of EBAY auction logic may cause the “Buy it Now” price to disappear when a certain percentage of the “Buy it Now” price is reached. Bid accordingly! I reserve the right to cancel bids from bidder’s with low feedback ratings or insufficient transaction history (less than 10). Some of the pix show an earlier CBX “Sport Kit” foot-peg arrangement. My preferred Raask rear-sets are now on the bike. The Sport Kit parts are not available and not included. I have a clear North Carolina title. Vehicle registration and safety inspections are both current. Buyer will receive a transferred title (via my signature) and a Bill-of-Sale. Any paperwork requirements beyond that are the buyer’s responsibility. Buyer must pick up locally or arrange for shipping, I will not crate or arrange shipping, I strongly prefer a buyer who will pick up here in Winston-Salem, NC. Any required shipping arrangements are 100% the logistical and financial responsibility of the buyer. There is no loading dock here. I am moving soon, so the bike must be picked up within 10 days of the auction end. Sorry. NO INTERNATIONAL BIDDING ON THIS AUCTION. Deposit of US $1000.00 required within 24 hours of auction close. Immediate deposit required for Buy It Now. Full payment required within 3 days of auction close via cash in person OR certified cashier's check. No Postal orders will be accepted. All funds must clear through our bank prior to bike pickup and title transfer. Make sure all of these terms are 100% acceptable before bidding. Good luck with your bidding, but remember - a winning bid is a binding agreement to buy per EBAY rules. If you have any questions about this bike please contact me before bidding. On Apr-23-14 at 04:52:17 PDT, seller added the following information: Note to Bidders - 4/23/14: A few people have tried to tempt me with offers to end this auction early. The only way that will happen is if someone wishes to select the “Buy it Now” EBAY option while that is available. Otherwise - to protect the interests of all bidders, this is a true auction. The bike will go to the highest bidder. I will not end the auction early or sell locally! Thank you. Randakk
