With only three owners from new and mileage believed to be close to the 76,000 showing on the odometer, this example feels quite fresh despite its age. Paint is almost all original and shows well; there are a few small blemishes as one would expect but overall it is in surprisingly good condition. Chrome is excellent, anodized trim is good with some minor fading. Glass is original and mostly excellent with the exception of a small star in the lower right corner of the windshield. Original tire pressure and air conditioning stickers are still on the glass. Rubbers are original and have some minor cracking around the rear window. No known rust top or bottom -- this car was clearly garaged most of its life. Overall it's in very nice exterior condition. Interior is original and in very good condition as well. MB-Tex seats have held up well with a couple knicks here and there. All gauges are working with the exception of the clock; the odometer stopped working recently but we estimate that the car has seen fewer than 5,000 miles since. Wiper mechanism and heater controls have been recently serviced. Interior wood trim is in fair to good unrestored condition. Dash pad has a couple minor cracks, headliner is very good. Interior lights and dash lights are working. Original Becker Europa FM radio is fitted and working; we have added an auxiliary input under the dash which utilizes the factory cassette plug on the rear of the head unit. New cocoa mats sit atop original carpet in good condition. The interior is a pleasant place to spend time. Mechanically this W108 is in excellent condition. Recent service includes fuel delivery and injection system rebuilds from the tank to the fuel rail -- pump, filter, strainer, lines and injectors were all replaced. Fuel injection points were cleaned and all D-Jet wiring was resistance tested. The intake manifold was pulled and new plenum and intake gaskets were fitted. A full tune-up was performed as well as an oil service and fluid changes. New tie rods were fitted and a new steering coupler was installed prior to an alignment and tire balance. Steering is tight and responsive, the driveline is smooth and the four-wheel disk brakes have been flushed and inspected. The 4.5 liter overhead cam V8 pulls like a freight train and cruises effortlessly and quietly on the highway all day long. Owners and admirers of the W108 know it to be superbly engineered, a refreshing reminder of the days when Mercedes-Benz built cars to a standard, not a price.
