Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is actually two 1991 Mercedes SD(L) 350 cars (one a part car). The “good” car is a 350 SDL and it's major problem is a blown head gasket. The other problem is the tranny doesn't want to shift out of first sometimes but there's another good tranny below. I have enjoyed this car as it's a very heavy safe car that actually gets a true 25 mpg on the highway (diesel fuel). I've heard others say they can get 30 mpg out of this model, but I think that's a stretch. We have owned this car for about 5 years and it's been good to us. Last year I had the engine gone through (rings bearings and gaskets) and I think they did not pay enough attention to the head bolts. Anyway, they will not do anything as it's been over a year. I had the option of installing another head gasket but we just bought a Hummer H3 instead. This car is in decent shape in spite of the 300k miles on it and we really drove it everywhere. Tires recently replaced. A few small issues: The heater/AC does not want to blow the air through the vents. It blows the air through the defroster and to the floor. Rear shocks are bad. The parts car is a 350 SD we drove until it was hit on the left rear (pictured) and was worth less than the repair so we bought the other one (still has a valid title). These cars are the same color inside and out so everything is the same except for the rear doors and longer driveshaft. Some parts have been removed. The engine is gone (used it for the repair above). The transmission is in the trunk and one of these two transmissions was completely rebuilt about 5 years ago and I think it's the one in the trunk. When they did the engine swap/rebuild I told them to put the rebuilt tranny in the good car but I think they put the wrong one in. Anyway, both transmissions were good when the engine was “repaired”. I have some other parts laying around that go with these such as a rebuilt starter and the euro style headlights. If you want a car that will give you great fuel economy and still be heavy enough to feel like a real car (and you know how to put in a head gasket) this car is the right one for you. I just want to move these two cars along so I'm going to have a true NO RESERVE auction and start the bidding at $200. Whoever is the high bidder WILL be the winner of this package (and it is a package – whoever wins must take both cars). Car must be picked up South of Memphis within one week of close of auction. $200 deposit within 24 hours via PayPal and the remainder upon delivery.
