Vehicle Detail
1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Pick Up Truck1981 Vw Rabbit PIik up truck Baby Blue - LE5B - exterior - dark blue interior Solid vent windows , 1.7 GAS motor , 5 speed transmission. 31k original miles Rabbit GTI snowflakes w/ good Cooper Tires This is a very low miles Vw Rabbit Pick up. Ive been driving the past few days and love it. Its not practical for me since I can not take both kids in it anywhere. Driving it around town I get a lot of thumbs up and waves. Its always a conversation piece even at the gas station. Its very CLEAN and ORIGINAL. There is no visible ROT / RUST. Behind the strut towers is still baby blue. The whole strut towers are rust free. The pinch welds along bottom of the truck are in awesome shape. The rockers are rust / rot free. The rear lower quarters behind the rear tires is rot / rust free. The seams along the cab and bed are rot / rust free. There are some bumps and bruises , small dings here and there. Even with the low miles this was used as a truck for the previous owners farm. It was Garage Kept! The registration for the truck just expired in January 2014 when the owner lost her drivers license due to age. I am second owner as of a few weeks ago. I looked at this truck in October 2012 and she finally got back to me a few weeks to finally sell it. She is a 94 year old woman. Her husband bought it new in 1980 he passed away in 1986. They lived in rural Nebraska and had a farm and used truck for light duty. The gas motor is a bit cold blooded when cold but once it starts up and goes runs great. These last few days it been 60-70 degrees and it been good to go right away. I cranked on the ac and the compressor kicks on and cold air was coming out center vents ( it was only 70 out when i tried this ) the belts are a little squeaky when running the AC. I ran it for a 10 minutes and it felt COLD. But the belts were very squeaky! They could be original to the truck. Since I have bought it I have done the following: Replaced the front struts assemblies with low mileage Sachs Sports Struts & Springs from Parts Place Inc. Also replaced the strut bearings with New ones Front end Alignment Changed the Oil Replaced the 13" steel rims with old snow tires with the 14" Factory Rabbit GTI snowflakes with Cooper tires with plenty of life left. Bought new rear quarter flare vinyl ( have not installed it , it is included ) Bought a 2 piece rear used rear Chrome Bumper ( I have not installed it , it is included ) Removed a complete lock set from a cabriolet I had. Includes both door handles and the ignition switch w/ key ( I have not installed but they are included ) Interior is awesome condition - headliner is saggin' down - the door panels / carpet and dash are in excellent condition. The Tan floor mats I had laying around, the ones that came in the truck were from a BIG American truck and did not FIT right. The exterior paint looks awesome - been some body work done on passenger fender and passenger door - its looks to be original fender but looks as if it was removed as the seam sealer is a different color than the other side. There looks to be bondo on the front middle section of the passenger. The Rear bumper got tweeked and the mounts are bent and shifted toward one side , the driver side license plate light housing is damaged. I have a nice used Chrome bumper included , just havent installed it. I have not had the opportunity to drive this much , yet. Just got it aligned on Tuesday and have been driving it around all week! Our Nebraska weather been hit and miss - so taking it on a long road trip would probably be ok - but i have not drove it much. Only maintenance history I got was in 2010 they drained tank and replaced fuel pump and filters from it sitting around. The gas gauge does NOT work - I removed the connectors on the fuel sending unit on top of the fuel tank, cleaned them and replaced them and it still does NOT work - so the sending unit is more than likely bad in the tank. Pretty common for these old trucks. I have a lot of pictures of the truck but can only upload 24 of them for this auction. Located in Lincoln Nebraska 68516 Sold as is where is - once payment is cleared the truck can be picked up or transported if necessary. 402-671-0355 - text messages ONLY. I am self employed and after 3pm if family time during the week. No texts after 10pm PLEASE. If you have alot of questions , send me a message through the ebay messages. It is listed for sale on several forums and other websites so auction could end at any given time with a local sale.On Apr-14-14 at 11:50:17 PDT, seller added the following information: I was driving the truck around this weekend with my 6 year old son. I didnt realize or remember that the truck has installed cruise control - i was cruising along highway at 65 MPH and hit the button and it dropped to 63 but held - i was shocked it worked. Then i noticed the lighter did NOT work - i am going to check the fuse , but in case that is not the issue - for those that might be interested in driving this beauty away - it didnt work on Saturday.
