Relisting... winning bidder got cold feet? (If you do not have history on ebay, please do not bid on this item.) My daily driver. I love this car, but wife wants something nicer. Starts up 1st crank and runs good. Body in excellent condition; Southern 99.99% rustfree car.Pretty good fuel economy w/ this diesel 4 cylinder engine. Vibrates some, but this may be normal? Interior is kinda worn. I swapped out the driver seat a while back. The original horsehair tends to break down after a couple of decades? No A/C. Cruise control worked intermittently last time I tried it, so would say the cruise does not work. The sunroof retracted last time I tried it, but worked so slowly, I was afraid it might get stuck open. It closed fine, keeping all water out, and I have not bothered to open it since. I installed a professionally rebuilt engine with about 60,000 miles on the engine (this engine was in another '82 240D. The former owner said the rebuilt engine had about 50,000 miles on it at the time, and I guess I've put another 10,000 miles on it since it's been in this car.) The Odometer was broken at 185,000 miles when I bought the car; odometer remains broken. Figure the car to have more than 200,000 miles, but as mentioned above has a good rebuilt engine. All other gauges, oil pressure, temperature, clock, etc. work. I installed a new matched set of wheels and tires (from tirerack.com) a while back. Tires have less than 10,000 miles on them. None have been patched. The wheels are 90's series style Mercedes wheels. I like the style and they are easy to clean... Never curbed and thus no curb rash!I researched the wheels to make sure they have a near factory "offset", from memory within 2mm of factory offset. (This offset is important. If the offset is too far negative or positive, you will ruin the wheel bearings.)Tires are 15 inch (vs original 14 inch). The outside diameter is within 2% of original, thus speedometer reads accurate. Alignment is good w/ tires wearing well. All fluids have been changed in the not too distant past, ie. brakes, transmission, differential, oil, coolant, etc. The car has been repainted, more than 15 years ago. Paint has a few blemishes, peeling, and is faded a bit from silver to nearer gray? It a "10 footer", i.e. paint looks good from 10 feet away!I included a couple of pics of the only rust evident on the car. This is a Southern car, starting life in Memphis, TN, migrating from there 60 miles south to Mississippi, then on to GA, and now in SW Fla. And thus very little rust. I included one pic of the door frame to show no rust. (Up North door frames can give tell-tale signs of salt rust?)I do not believe this car has ever been wrecked, flooded, or subject to other catastrophe. Although the paint is a bit faded, the body is in very good condition. I mentioned a leak in the failed last auction. (I could not get into the description to update info regarding the leak.) Since I did not recall the car having a leak, I went under the car to inspect, and discovered the oil drain plug needed to be snugged up. the windshield gasket may leak. I park the car in the garage and am a fair-weather driver. (I'm going from memory, I have not seen the leak in years), the floorboards are in perfect condition w/ no rust what-so-ever. These floorboards are so solid I'm thinking you could stand an elephant on them, and they would hold! If you are going to be driving this car in the rain, you might want to replace the windshield seals/gaskets. The rear window seal looks good with no cracks and I believe keeps out water. This is not a "show car" in present condition. This is a nice 32 year old car that you can enjoy running around town in, get a few looks (at 10 feet), and even confidently drive home if you win the bidding.)
