Vehicle Detail

This is a 1982 Honda GL500 Silverwing. It has 8658 miles on it. I bought it 4 years ago, and put new tires on it, had a tune up, and had the air suspension seals replaced by Honda Suzuki of Warren. It is wonderful motorcycle, but my garage is getting full, and it's time to thin the herd. It is as original and complete a bike as you will find. It has the original tool kit and owner's manual, as well as the back saddle that is not shown in the pictures (it comes with the small trunk as seen in the picture). The GL500 was an interesting bike. It was the top of the line of the "CX" style motorcycles sold by Honda. The CX line had the shaft drive of a BMW, the transverse V-twin of a Moto Guzzi, and the water cooling of a Goldwing. The GL500 added an air suspension, front and back, to the motorcycle. I can tell you that you "glide" along the road. It also has electronic ignition and a higher capacity alternator, so you don't have to mess with points, and you can hook up accessories to the motorcycle. At the time, Honda offered these as fully faired bikes, like a Goldwing Interstate, or as a "naked" bike, like the one I've got. The bike has always started, and I have had no problems with it whatsoever. The biggest problem, frankly, is I'm running out of space in the garage, and for me, the bike is a little small (I'm 6'3", and I like to have a little more legroom). I have ridden this motorcycle across the state, and would not hesitate to ride it anywhere. This bike is as clean as you can get for a 32 year old original condition motorcycle. There is only one thing that I know that doesn't work on the motorcycle - the trip odometer. I'm sure that any speedo shop can fix that. The regular odometer functions just fine. There are two cosmetic issues I should raise. The housing that has the turn signal indicators, oil light, etc., seems to have some thin cracks in it. It's a common part to Hondas of that era and available on Ebay. I just never got around to fixing it. There are also some scratches on the tank. I've taken pictures. The main ones were from when, according to the prior owner, someone broke into their garage, and knocked some things onto the bike. Anyway, if you are the winner, you have to arrange to pick the bike up. Thanks for looking, and think spring!
