Vehicle Detail
For sale is my beautiful 1979 Ford F-150 Ranger XLT 4X4. This truck has only 75,503 original miles, with only 411 miles on rebuilt long block purchased from NAPA and installed in February 2012. My goal when purchasing the truck in 2008 was to completely restore it to its previous glory, but just never found the time to get all accomplished that I’d wanted to. I did get most all done under the hood that I wanted with the in-kind engine replacement (400ci, 6.6L), Edelbrock Intake Manifold, chrome Edelbrock Valve Covers, and a 450cfm Edelbrock Carburetor. I also replaced the starter, alternator, voltage regulator, distributor and cap, ignition coil, water and fuel pumps, radiator, and entire cooling fan system with high pitch blades. I also had the entire brake system overhauled in 2013 with completely new drum kits installed in the rear, and new calipers, pads and rotors in the front. The truck does have a drip coming from somewhere, my suspicion in from the oil drain plug as it never leaked until my last oil change. The truck does not have the AC compressor as it was not there when I purchased the truck. It did originally come with AC as the controls in the cab show options. Other than that, there are no mechanical issues for me to list here. The truck fires right up, has plenty of power, and sounds amazing with the true dual exhaust system. The lifted suspension and tires were on the truck when I bought it. I believe it’s a 6” lift, and the rubber is 33” x 12.5” BFGoodrich Mud Terrain. There is good life left on the tires (see photos). The body on this truck is very straight, and all the lines and trim match up nicely. I had the hood repainted in 2013 due to some peeling clear coat, but other than that I have not gotten to any body work done. The only rust I know of on the truck is on the tailgate, propagating from beneath a piece of chrome trim at top of tailgate (see pictures). There are also a few small paint chips located on the tailgate, as well as on the drivers side door and on bed directly behind the drivers side door (see photos). These are small paint chips, and I have done my best to capture them in the photographs. There are no major dents anywhere. The hood has some very small dimples that can be seen only at certain angles in a certain light. Looks like it could be some old hail marks, but I never even noticed them until I had the hood repainted. Chances are you wouldn’t notice them at first look now. The truck has never been wrecked to my knowledge, and the body is very straight and clean. This is one of the nicest truck bodies you are going to find out there for a 1979. It could use a new paint job simply because the existing paint has lost some luster over the years, but I get stopped every time I take this thing out with compliments and offers to buy. The interior was actually the next portion of the truck I was planning to restore. I did manage to replace the headliner, adding in a piece of diamondplate (see photos), and the door panels. I replaced the door panels with black rather than the original blue, but I do still have the originals and will send with the truck. The stock radio was replaced with a Sony CD player with auxiliary input and ipod connector. The Sony Deck was installed into the existing opening, and no cutting was necessary. The truck has two 12” subs and an amplifier that I will leave in as well. The steering wheel has been replaced with a nice Grant wheel, and both the floor mounted 4x4 shifter and column mounted transmission shifter have been replaced with nice B&M shifters. The interior is very nice and clean considering the years and what I’ve seen in other 79’s for sale. The seat does have a few rips on the drivers side (see pics), but the foam and springs are intact, and seat is comfortable. I’ve kept a seat cover on until today for the pics, and I didn’t even remember the tears were there. There is a nice 3 panel digital gauge set installed, and was there when I purchased the truck, All gauges work great, and report engine temperature, oil pressure and battery voltage. The windshield does have a circular crack on passenger side (see photo). Well there it is. I’ve done my best to list all deficiencies and take a lot of good pictures. Please keep in mind that this truck is 35 years old. I wanted to keep this thing and finish it up, but I just relocated to Florida and now the family wants a boat. Unfortunately I cannot fit both in the garage, so the truck has to go. This has never been used by me as a daily driver, though it should do that fine (if you can afford the gas). I hope that that whoever wins the truck gets as much joy from it as I have over the past 6 years. This is the nicest one you’re going to find around, and although it’s a little on the pricey end, its selling for much less than I’ve got invested in it, and will not require any major expenses to restore as engine is done and body is rust and damage free. Feel free to ask any additional questions. I am willing to work with any shipper that you set up, but it will have to be set up by you. I recently shipped the truck from Montana to Florida and it costed $550. Just do some research and shopping around. I am in the boat market, so If you have a nice boat I may interested in a trade deal. Thanks and good luck!! John
