ONLY PRODUCED LESS THAN 10,000 UNITS IN 20 YEARS, AND LESS THAN 160 IN THIS MODEL YEAR...INTERIOR HAS REAL RECARRO LEATHER SEATING WITH THAT AGED PATINA... NO CRACKS OR BLEMISHES ON DASHBOARD OR DOORS... ORIGINAL SHAG CARPETING IN GREAT SHAPE! HEADLINER IS IN GREAT CONDITION WITH THAT FANTASTIC "BUILT-IN ROLLBAR"...SHE HAS AIR CONDITIONING, POWER DOOR LOCKS AND WINDOWS WHICH WORK, ORIGINAL BLAUPUNKT AM/FM CASSETTE AND POWER ANTENNA, STRONG PULLING 350 CORVETTE MOTOR AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT SHIFTS WITH AUTHORITY...SHE DOESN'T SMOKE OR STINK. SHE DRIVES DOWN THE ROAD NICELY FOR ALL THE WORLD TO ADMIRE AND ENVY.. The Avanti started life in 1962 as the Raymond Loewy designed flagship sports car of Studebaker automobile company. Despite the demise of Studebaker itself the intrinsic strengths of the Avanti have allowed it to remain at the forefront of American sports cars for more than a generation. The original Avantis were produced in the Studebaker factory in South Bend, Indiana. After Studebaker had ceased production at South Bend, the "Avanti" model name, tooling, Studebaker truck production rights and parts and plant space were bought by local Studebaker dealers, Nate and Arnold Altman and Leo Newman, who incorporated as Avanti Motor Corporation and hand-built small numbers of cars.The Altman brothers introduced a slightly modified version of the car in 1965 under the brand name "Avanti II" which initially had a 327-in. (5.4 L) Chevrolet Corvette engine. This evolved to the 350, the 400, 305 the last Avanti made came off the line with V-6 from Roush and only one was made. All Avanti IIs and their successors were built on Studebaker chassis from 1963 to 1987.As the Avanti II went through the mechanical and interior appointment changes, the original body lines never varied and were merely embellished with cosmetic differences. The mechanical changes, were never recorded by the factory, but included a move to the turbo 350 transmission, then to the Turbo 400 and on to the T200-4R & T700-R4.
