Vehicle Detail

Well guys, this is it! If you've been telling yourself how much you would like to have another 305 scrambler, the time is right now! I first saw this bike in about 1980 when I started working in a honda shop owned by Rob Slack. I met Rob in 1967 when I got my first Z50. Rob was a legend. A god in the motorcycle world back then. One of his closet friends was none other, than Evil Knevel. He lived two hours away from Rob and the the closet sizeable bike shop was Rob's. I had told Rob when I first saw the scrambler, that if he ever decided to sell, that I would be the first one to be considered. Finally in 1992, 12 years later, Rob said I could buy the bike and now it's 20 years later and now it's your turn. If this bike has been restored, it had to have been before 1980. Remember back then, this bike was only about 12 or 13 years old. They didn't usually restore bikes that new so I believe that freshened up would be a better term. Guys, this is the most honest old scrambler I know of. It's not a 100 point blah, blah, blah restoration. This is the real thing. The paint is right for its age although I had to have the tank repainted. The tank had very light rust in it. A friend of mine, who owns a a tranny shop said he could dunk it, boil it or whatever and that it wouldn't hurt the paint but he was wrong and it did. The repainted tank now has more shine than the rest of the bike but it still looks good. I have never put gas back in it.The chrome is perfect without any pitting. The wheels and the pipes are perfect. Since we don't have any humidity in Montana, there is no rust either. The rear grab bar must have been welded and ground once. (see pics). As you can see the chain guard is not original. I'm sure that back then someone replaced it with a custom one much as we would do today. I know it had been on the bike for quite a while because it had cracked and someone repaired it. The hi-low beam switch must have broke also. Someone drilled and installed a micro switch. (see pics). The seat is old. Still holding up but it's starting to sag. The front tire is not correct and starting to check also. This bike has not seen the light of day in almost ten years. It has sat in the back of my warehouse covered in a blanket. When I decided to list it for sale, I hit it with the air hose and gave it a good bath. I removed the seat, put in a battery and hooked up my portable fuel tank. A few kicks later, it was running and running well. It revs up, idles, and runs perfect. I have only rode this bike probably ten times total. I know it drives, shifts, and stops like it should. I started looking at the muffler and noticed it was only held on by one bolt so guess what happened next? I had not heard one of these with open pipes since mine as a teenager. Oh my God, the sound was awesome. I polished the pipes where the muffler slid over and the chrome is perfect. I will hand the muffler and the gasket thing to the new owner. Taking the muffler off these bikes really changes the whole look and attitude. It just doesn't look or sound like dad's bike anymore. This bike would be a great addition to any collection or maybe used for Sunday rides. It would fit right in any man cave or if you have enough letters or words behind your name, you could put it in your office. Either way, don't let this one get away.
