Vehicle Detail
I bought a new NC700X, so I am getting rid of my old '79 Goldwing. It has about 19,000 actual original miles (very low for these workhorse engines). The engine has never been rebuilt to my knowledge, but all cylinders have good compression. This bike currently has NO leaks, which is a major feat on a 35 year old machine. It gives a little puff of smoke out the left side exhaust upon startup, which is a typical condition usually due to engine oil pooling on the LH Side exhaust valve guides. It is in good running order and starts/runs fine. All gauges and meters work fine. It has very new tires (Dunlop), fresh oil change with a Bosch filter and Rotella T6 5W40 (full synthetic JASO certified, no wet clutch issues), all new cables, new Barnett clutch springs, all new fluids and oils (Royal Purple final drive oil), new Interstate AGM battery, new electric starter and relay, new ignition points, condenser, and spark plugs, new cam belts, new thermostat, new radiator hoses, new Show-Chrome timing covers and rocker covers with new gaskets, and all new wheel bearings. I installed a Randakk's Conversion Plate for automotive spin-on oil filter (see Randakk's for filter options). This plate is machined from Aluminum Alloy, so it is lightweight. It allows the use of readily available, cheaper automotive oil filters. I modded the engine with the Rear Case from a '75 GL1000, so it has a kickstarter if you are so inclined. I have never HAD to kick it over, but it does work if you want to use it. The original mufflers were replaced with new chrome turndown MAC dual pipes. The headers were wrapped with fiberglass exhaust tape, so you don't have a problem with hot feet. The mufflers sound great. They are definitely a little louder than stock, but not annoying or droning on the highway. All 4 carbs were rebuilt with Randakk's rebuild kits, rejetted for the MAC pipes, and synchronized. The Randakk's kit is the best on the market and uses all Viton seals, so modern E10 gas is no problem. The fuel shutoff petcock has also been rebuilt with all viton seals.I replaced the original shocks with new shocks with Progressive 12 Series Springs. The spring rate is 105/150, which is the standard weight for this bike. I weigh about 180, and they are a little hard, so there is still plenty of room to load up with a passenger or cargo. The front forks have a Superbrace fork brace added, which noticeably helps front end stability during cornering. It has new All-Balls fork seals, but they are already starting to weep a little. I'm not terribly worried about it, and I would probably go back with OEM Honda seals at some point. I removed the body panels, debadged, and covered with 3M Di-Noc Black Dry Carbon Film. I added a LED amber running light on each side panel. The seat is a brand new custom Corbin in Carbon Fiber print black and Red piping, which matches the frame and body work. The seat is much better than the stock seat and really has a "bucket" shape for comfortable cruising. The front wheel is a 19" Comstar off of a CB900 with drilled rotors. I upgraded to a Nissin Front Master Cylinder and Stainless braided lines. The brakes work great! The rear wheel is the original GL1000 Comstar. This will make someone a great, unique old bike. It gets compliments on every trip out. Anyone interested in this bike should visit www.randakks.com for more details, tips, mods, and parts for these old bikes. Randall Washington is one of the premier GL1000 gurus in the world right now and offers a wealth of knowledge on his website. I have purchased many parts form him and it is always a trouble-free process. There may be more that I am forgetting... Basically, I have replaced every wear part on the bike with OEM or better.PM me with any questions or comments, or if you are interested. I can take more pics, videos, etc if you'd like. The bike is located in Dallas, TX near Love Field Airport. I can deliver within the TX/OK area, for $0.35 per mile if necessary. Sorry everyone. The Ebay photo tool did something weird. I have re-added all pics and they should be visible to everyone. Thanks for the patience!
