Vehicle Detail
Let me start this with saying I was a Honda dealer mechanic during the 1970s and 1980s and every now and again I buy an old Honda to fix up. This is one of those bikes and it’s a really nice rider. 19,085 original miles. Bodywork: Repainted the correct 1976 Sulfur Yellow with Lubritech HS-16-605 paint and the correct contrasting color pinstripes then clearcoated. New Petcock. Side covers and emblems were NOS a few years ago and still look great. Chrome is original and nice, it still shines well but is not show quality. The inside of the tank has not been coated and has varnish stains but it not rusty. Given the year and original mileage it is clear this bike sat for a very long time at some point in its life and I’m sure that’s where the varnish came from. I do not run external fuel filters and in over 500 miles of shakedown rides I have not gotten any crud in the carb bowls. Original seat has a small split in a seam as shown in a photo. Rubber bits on the bike are nice with little to zero dry rot. The center stand is still installed. Original handlebars. Wheels and Brakes: New correct steel rims and stainless spokes and nipples. Hubs were blasted and repainted when the wheels were apart. Dunlop tires, tubes and rim strips with 500 miles on them. Chain and sprockets replaced at the same time as the wheel rebuild. New brake pads. Master cylinders rebuilt. Braded steel front line. Suspension and Frame: New “Forking by Frank” fork tubes. New fork seals and dust caps. Front lower legs were cleaned up but not painted over in an effort to hide anything and they have no rash or scrapes. Triple trees were blasted and repainted. Rear shocks are original, they work and they don’t leak. Chrome on the springs have a little pitting. Original paint and decals on the frame. There is light surface rust on the frame in a few places but it never had a battery acid overflow and the resulting damage. I debated respraying the frame but decided the surface rust was minor enough that leaving it original was a better idea. Engine: Runs great, I just replaced the points, condensers, plugs and plug caps, adjusted the valves and cam chain and changed the oil and filter. The carbs were rebuilt last year, ultrasonically cleaned and most important – the choke linkages were properly adjusted and the carbs synced. Proper choke linkage adjustment is often overlooked and is critical on SOHC 750s if you expect them to start easily and run well when cold. Once warm it idles smooth and quiet at 1500 RPMs. Runs out to redline with no issues. It has a new NOS air filter. The bike has the original 4 into 1 factory exhaust with the baffle intact which was also critical to making these bikes run well. The muffler is in excellent shape and there are no dents or dings. The chrome on the front section of the exhaust is just OK – but try to find an original F exhaust in good shape these days! It does not leak oil. Shifts like a SOHC 750 – always has the chunk going into first and clicks through the gears much better than any English bike back in the day. No issues finding neutral. Clutch works fine without slipping. Electrics: Everything works as it should including the turn signal beeper. Correct headlight bulb. All lenses are in nice shape. New battery in June 2013. Clear title in my name. I will work with your shipper. If you are local you are welcome to come take a look and hear it run but the roads are covered with salt so no test rides.
