Offered for sale is an exceptionally solid example of a 1959 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite. We acquired this Sprite earlier this year, and have simply not had any time to do much with it. The original 948cc engine was replaced at some point with a larger 1098cc / ribcase transmission and a Weber 40DCOE carburetor and intake manifold. The steel hood has been converted to front hinging. Some features include: New clutch disc and cover, front and rear Spax tube shock conversion, front sway bar, new springs front and rear, exhaust header, Monza muffler and tips, new Interstate battery. This Sprite has had an older amateur partial restoration, and while the paint color combination has a great look, it is cracking from age. The driver’s toe floor has been repaired at some point, and an access point with cover was made in the tunnel area. First gear is very noisy and will need to be addressed at some point, but otherwise the car drives and handles quite well, and is very spirited and tight. The car’s interior shows well and the top is in fair condition. The side curtains are missing. The body and chassis structure are in very good condition and are about as solid as an unrestored Bugeye gets. While this car is not perfect, it is a very honest, solid, useable example.
