Vehicle Detail

I purchased it in early 2010 from Watsonville CA, before being in CA it was in Texas, Dallas area. I have a registration from March of 1986 out of Dallas. This bike has matching title and frame numbers. A BMW conversion consists of a stock 55 to 69 BMW frame slightly modified @ the seat silent block mounting area to accommodate the “taller” /5 and later air box. It’s a matter of removing about a 11mm step in the silent block to frame plate. Other than that nothing is needed to put a later motor and transmission into the frame. You will need a spacer plate to connect the /5 and later transmission to the /2 driveshaft. Depending on the fuel tank you use you will have to modify the lower tank mount bracket as well. The other equation of a conversion is the triple trees and forks. Using a stock ‘Earls Forks’ requires adjusting either the back brace of the Earls. Some cut the brace and move it higher, some cut the brace to a half pipe and fill in w/flat stock, some don’t modify the forks only to modify the timing cover. Lastly if you have telescopic forks you need no modifications at all. What this gives you is a very cool vintage looking bike with the ability to have 12 volts (brighter lights), replaceable oil filter, electric start (no kicking for my old knee) and parts that are less expensive than the /2 parts. I have seen many variations of Conversions, and owned several over the last 20 years. Each conversion bike is unique. Motorcycle Located in Midland, Michigan. This bike has a 1977 R100/7 Motor and 5 speed transmission, no kicker. Original R60 25/8 gear ratio, /5 timing chest for mechanical drive tach, Velo starter, Touring large gas tank w/dual fuel taps, /5 speedo bucket w/working speedo, odo and tach. /5 wiring harness w/thumb switches. Idiot lights on speedo work as they should i.e. oil press, charging, neutral. I’ve added Stainless bar end turn signals w/reminder in headlight. All switches work as intended. I added a Rocky Point ignition switch (no more nail) and molded the ‘one of a kind’ key into the stock /2 key plastic. /2 stock rear light can w/LED brake/running light module, much brighter. I took the bike down to do some repairs last year over the winter, including top end re-ring, removing oxidation from the aluminum, general maintenance on splines and lubes. Mechanically the bike is a 8 to 9 of a 10. Cosmetically it needs help. Looks good in pictures but has scratches, and cracked paint on the tank. Inside the tank is pretty good. Pinstripes are tape. It’s a great rider which is what I do with it, back and forth to work mostly. I did go to Vintage motorcycle days in 2011 on it. About 600 miles put on that day. Bike has very easy riding position w/the Denfeld solo seat. /6 forks w/dual disc and later model handlebar mount master cylinder. Harley type 12v coil w/dual outlet under that tank, all other BMW relays and regulators under the tank. Still has points ignition. Has repop Enduro locking Saddlebags. Flanders sidestand and factory centerstand. Needs tires as they have cracking on sidewalls (were new in 09). Exhaust thread repair on one head by Paul Sturges, Heads reconditioned by Gunther Wuest, no parts needed. New rings and light hone by me. All new gaskets and seals, Splines lubed upon reassembly. Stainless pushrod tubes, stainless hardware. Keihan Stainless Exhaust new in early 2013. Front 19”x1.85” wheel new stainless spokes, new bearings and seals, blasted hub, polished and trued rim. Rear 18”x2.15” wheel (stock /2 aluminum) new stainless spokes, repacked bearings new seals, hub blasted, rim polished and trued. Wheel work done by WUMA INC. Gunther Wuest Dual Disc /6 forks, were rebuilt in 06 still no leaks, 2013 Rebuilt both front calipers, 40mm ATE’s and new pads. I can assist w/shipping, This bike was shipped to me by Motorcycleshippers.com, they are real easy to work with. Ask questions, we can swap phone #'s. Bike is in excellent running condition but is a old bike. I guarantee it to be as described. I have all the receipts for everything I've purchased for it.
