Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a Euro spec 1974 Porsche 911 2.7L Targa with a steel fender widebody conversion ... This 911 does run and drive and has been kept in a climate controlled garage, but has been mainly unused for a few years. Per my description, it is the perfect restoration candidate or a great base for a Carrera RS or RSR clone. Realistically the car needs a motor rebuild (or a swap for a 964 engine), a repaint, and to have the interior re-done (the carpeting is very nice and if it were me I would pull out the rear seats, install some turbo front seats and make the interior panels very sparse like an RS America). It is finished in white over white leather, but was originally Orange with Black leatherette. It has a 5-spd. manual trans and 72,500 original Kilometers showing. It needs to be gone through but where do you find complete, running 911's for this price? Additional Details: (VIN: 9114113012), white / white leather int. with black carpeting, 5-spd. manual, 72,500 KM shown, Bosch K-Jetronic CIS multi-point fuel injection, dry sump oiling system with separate storage tank, 2 valves per cylinder, 8 main bearings, independent front suspension with torsion bar and anti-roll bar, independent rear suspension with semi-trailing arms, transverse torsion bar and anti-roll bar, rack and pinion steering, 11-blade cooling fan, DME controlled electronic fuel injection system. This 911 left the factory in 1974 as an (E7) orange with (14) black leatherette narrow body Euro spec 2.7L 911 targa. Some time after it was modified to be a turbo-bodied soft rear window targa (there is no glass window for the rear). The front and rear flares were done very nicely and correctly in metal, while the body was painted white and the interior was completely redone in purple. The interior has since been (poorly) dyed white and the body has various flaws, paint cracks, etc. The carpet appears to have been changed to purple at some point, but today is black as it was delivered. The targa top is in one piece and fits on the car well, but needs to be completely restored. It is showing 72,500 KM and the PO claims this is correct and original. This 911 is a numbers matching car, having the original engine, transmission, etc. It runs and drives but does have the expected oil leaks. The car drives very well and the motor is strong, although it will blow smoke for a few minutes if it hasn't recently been run. The targa bar has been painted white and the car sits on gold BBS rims that were previously painted purple. The 1976/77 turbo-stye rear wing, by GFK Technik, is all fiberglass. The PO began a restoration project on the car a few years ago which is why half of the interior is torn apart and why the ignition lock is missing - the car has to be started with a screwdriver. He abandoned the restoration project when his health began failing. He obtained the car in 1998 from a German born Porsche executive who imported the car to Long Boat Key, FL in the late 1970's. He lived in the Bradenton, FL area with the car until 2004 when he moved to Owensboro, KY and kept the car in a heated and air- conditioned garage. I received the car in August 2013. This 911 is a 4-foot car and a perfect candidate for a restoration, due to a very solid and unadulterated tub and floorpans, and the lack of any major rust on the car. However, realistically every part of the car need to be gone through, and I think the best thing to do with it (other than a total restoration to original specs) would be to build a lightweight 2.7 RS or RSR tribute car. You could leave the flares, strip the interior and have RS style door panels, add a custom leather covered rollcage and modify the engine to 2.7RS specs or better. This 911 comes with the full interior including door panel armrests, dash cover, etc. Information from the Porsche factory Kardex is as follows: 1974 911 Targa, G-body (VIN: 911 411 3012) Engine # 6146426 (151 hp.) 911/92 engine stamp / 614 code Transmission # 349601 Colour Orange / E7 Inside Black Leatherette / 14 Options: M 404 - stabilizer bars M 414 - Combined oil pressure and temperature gauge M 436 - Transmission oil cooler M 477 - Folding Targa top (non-folding hardtop std in 1974 and 1975) M 565 - Safety steering wheel - leather Pirelli tires.
