Vehicle Detail

1956 Ford for sale or trade. Low Reserve. Complete restoration completed fall 2010. This was a shed find from a local collector who never got around to restoring it after purchasing it from the original owner in 1995. He told me he drove it up the road a couple miles then parked it under a shed where it sat until I purchased it in 2007. As far as I can tell the mileage is accurate. Could not confirm this because the original owner is deceased. It was built in Dearborn I think ( looked it up one time but memory is failing) and lived its life right here in west Georgia. The guy I purchased it from said the owner told him he picked it up at the factory and drove it back to Georgia. I have a folder full of receipts about 2" thick on this car. The car had substantial rust from sitting on flat tires and close to the ground. The floor board, Rockers (inner and outer) and fender bottoms were all professionally replaced. Also the pine straw had gathered in the drip rails and rusted through. About 2" of the top on each side approximately 24" long was cut out and new metal welded in. There was no rust in the trunk or on any of the body support rails. Front cross member was replaced and everything undercoated underneath. The 272 CI engine was rebuilt and the transmission was gone through and freshened up. New clutch and pressure plate and release bearing was installed as was an alternator, new water pump complete new brake system and a 57 Thunderbird intake along with a chrome 4160 Holley carburetor was installed. Just recently replace all the ignition parts since it had been sitting for nearly a year since I last drove it. A new gas tank and a custom, shortened 9" ford Rear end with all new 3:00 gears were installed for cruising and better braking. Original was 3:89 ratio. A Custom Auto retro sound system was installed. The interior was sewn and furnished by SMS interiors in Farmington, MA. Everything from the vinyl headliner down to the carpet was replaced. The seats were rebuilt and new foam added. The dash is all original except for a volt meter installed where the clock delete was. The motor starts and runs as it should, however, the clutch has a slight chatter, sometimes. I have done everything imaginable but can't seem to solve that little annoyance. Had the flywheel turned and balanced. Sent the Dennis Carpenter clutch up to Conyers Clutch Service for a custom rebuild which included custom matched springs rubber isolators and a whole bunch of other stuff I didn't understand. The car came with duals and a teapot carb. It was ordered that way. The block was not bored since there was little wear and no deformation so she is still a strong 272 CI. Now for the exterior. All of the emblems and ornaments have been replaced with NOS or reproductions. All the chrome was re-chromed and all the original stainless steel moldings were polished and reused with all new clips. Two new tail light buckets and two new door handles and everything will be as it was in 1956. The body finishing was done by a local body shop and painted with Dupont basecoat/clearcoat. It is the glossiest I have ever seen. It is finished in Fiesta Red. The tires were new two years ago. The only thing that is not perfect is the body shop didn't do quite enough sanding. When you look down the side in the bright sun shine you can see a couple little spots where they sanded through but didn't feather quite enough. Not enough to show in a picture, however. The other imperfection is a couple spots just above the drip rail where they apparently left a thin layer of the sealer they used to fill the bottom of the drip rail and painted over it. It has started to lift a little. The last two pictures is an attempt to show this, however, it just isn't large enough for it to show up very well in the pix. I have invested over $14,000 in parts and labor not to mention 100's of hours of personal labor in this car. Had plans to install AC and drive it but I got old and had to retire before that happened. I got to drive it about 50 miles all together. The reserve price is many thousands below the investment. Just need it to have a good home and someone to love it as much as I have. My first car was just like it except it was dark blue. Goodness, If I had had a car like this when I was in high school --- well, you can fill in the rest of that story. I have tried to describe this car as accurately as possible including all the defects. Check my many years of 100% feed back both as a seller and a buyer and bid with confidence. The last one I had shipped went to Dallas and it cost $675. That was about 6 months ago so I imagine it might be about $800 now to go about 1000 miles. Of course you are welcomed to come by an look or call me at 706-656-1175 Ask for Larry. PS There is a new car cover and an extra hubcap in the trunk you can see in one of the pix. Those are reflections of clouds /////On Oct-10-13 at 14:23:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Several questions have come in about the brakes. Everything was made new at restoration. Also the wipers were converted to an electric system special made for the 56 Fords. As I mentioned in the added note. The car has new glass including an $850 windshield. Glass was installed by Safelite. All the window hardware was cleaned and replaced as needed. We also installed a new $750 Aluminum Radiator and an upgraded single diaphragm 62 to 74 model Y-block distributer. Of course we replaced all the pumps, water and oil while we were in the engine. Crankshaft was standard so we did not have it turned just replaced all the bearings, rings and pistons and honed the cylinders a little since you could still see the factory cross hatching in the bottom of the bores. Engine carries 50 lb running and 20 lb idle oil pressure hot. Finally, the car will be sold with a notarized bill of sale as Georgia does not issue titles for vehicles older than 1985. As I said in the description we have owned the car since 2007 and we know its history so I am sure there are no challenges out there. Also have the bill of sale where we purchased it.
