Vehicle Detail

For auction at NO RESERVE is my 1983 Honda CB1000 Custom. This is the black/silver color combination, which looks great. There's lots of info on the internet about this one year only bike, which makes it very rare, so I won't repeat that here. I'll only provide the official Honda Service Manual official specs, since the internet reported some dubious numbers: . Max horsepower: 89.2 BHP @ 8000 RPM . Max torque: 60.7 lb-ft @ 6500 RPM . Fuel capacity: 4.4 gals. + 0.8 gals. reserve . Dry weight: 584 lbs. . Wet weight (includes fuel): 615.2 lbs. . Curb weight (includes all necessary operating consumables): 620.4 lbs. . Wheelbase: 63.5" . Seat height: 31.1" . Ground clearance: 5.9" . Carbs: 4-VB55A Constant Velocity Keihin, 32 mm Venturi bore . Tires--front: 110/90-18; rear: 140/90-16 . Engine type: Air cooled, transverse four cylinder, four stroke, Dual Overhead Camshaft . Max RPM : 9,500 . Speedometer range: 150 MPH . Bore/Stroke: 67 x 69 mm . Compression ratio: 9.0:1 . Ignition: Transistorized, Two magnetic triggers, Capacitor Discharge Ignition (CDI) system . Suspension--front: TRAC anti-dive system; air/coil spring telescopic fork, 160 mm wheel travel --rear: swing arm, twin air/coil spring shocks, 99mm wheel travel . Brakes--front: twin disc; rear: single disc . Exhaust: 4 into 4 . Transmission: Subtransmission with Hi/Lo range with 5 gears for each range for a total of 10 gears! The subtransmission effectively reduces RPM by 1000 (e.g., 60 mph in Lo range is 5,000 RPM and in Hi range is 4,000 RPM) My extras/upgrades: . Added super rare Bates lockable fiberglass hard bags, turn signals, and brake lights. The bags look cool and hold a lot. Hard mounted to the frame with a specialized mounting bracket system. I've seen these Bates hard bags for sale on the internet once in a while for about $200-$300, but they weren't in as good shape as mine and didn't include all of the wiring and lights. . Added stock period sissy bar (vinyl pad) and extendable chrome rear rack (very, very rare). Great for carrying a ton of stuff. . Added "Yosemite Sam" mud flap (when was the last time you saw one of these?). This is especially rare since Yosemite Sam's eyes light up and flash, and his two pistols constantly shoot "bullets" when you apply the brakes. . Added stock vinyl saddle cover. Very comfortable saddle--good foam. . Added Vetter SS Windjammer fairing, which includes installed Vetter horns--automobile-strength loud! All in excellent condition. . Replaced old Vetter plexiglass windshield about a year ago with a new Slipstreamer Acrylic windshield with two fresh air scoops (may be opened or closed). . Replaced all non-stock components (mirrors, handlebar grips, cables, etc.) with Honda stock components. (The mirrrors were especially hard to get.) . Added a rare chrome throttle lock--very sturdy since all are made of plastic now. Works great! . Added the correct "crash bars" for this model. . Replaced all cables; rebuilt all carbs; replaced all brake hoses; rebuilt front master cylinder and rear brake master cylinder components (new rubber parts, etc.), and replaced all brake fluid just last week, so braking is superb! . Synched the carbs to utilize full power. Runs great! . Mileage at 69,830 may seem high to some. But these Honda DOHC engines have a bullet-proof design and can easily run up to 200,000 miles without needing a rebuild. Kelley Blue Book (KBB) estimated mileages for used bikes only go back 10 years (now to 2004, but for large displacement bikes such as this (anything over 750cc), KBB estimated the average mileage for a 2004 bike to be about 41,050 miles. Being my bike is three times as old (30th birthday this year!), you then might expect the average mileage to be three times the KBB estimate for the 10-year old bike, or about 120,000 miles. So, the mileage on my bike is way below what one would expect for a 30-year old bike. Only minor downside is the tank paint in certain spots. The clear coat was bubbling in a few areas (a common problem with this age bike), so it was sanded where it was bubbling. The underlying color was not affected, however. Tank decals and the metallic silver colors are perfect, but certain black-painted areas could use a fresh coat of paint and another clearcoat. As you can see from my upgrades, I've taken really good care of this motorcycle over the years I've owned it. Tires have good tread, Yuasa battery is about 1 year old, the bike has been regularly maintained (oil changes, brake fluid replaced), valve clearances are correct (needed to replace only a few shims), etc., etc. In short, it's in excellent mechanical condition. Very comfortable, but with almost 90 horsepower and 61 ft-lbs of torque, it's also a quick scoot! Fits the "sport-touring" category very well. Will work with seller on coordinating with shippers, if requested. I'm located in Sacramento, CA, along two major shipping corridors--Interstate 80 (east/west) and Interstate 5 (north/south). So, shipping should be no problem. This auction will also include the official Honda Service Manual for the 1983 Honda CB1000 Custom. This alone is a $50 value. Also included is the stock rear sissy bar. Kelly Blue Book retail price for this rare bike in excellent condition is $2,630. Even adjusting for the minor tank paint issue mentioned, my asking price is well below what this bike is worth. So, this is your opportunity to own a rare and classic Honda motorcycle that was way ahead of its time. Finally, this auction is an "as is/where is" sale without any warranty, express or implied.
