Vehicle Detail

Offered for sale is my 1966 BMW R60/2 with Steib S 500 sidecar. This beautiful machine is an unrestored survivor in elegant Dover White. The remarkable condition of this European classic is a testament to BMW quality and engineering. It has been in my family for 15 years. The bike has 42,000 miles on it. All maintenance is up to date. During oil slinger service 200 miles ago, the bore diameters, piston sizes, ring gap, and other critical features were found to be within tolerance. The paint is glossy, smooth, and almost perfect. The original hand-painted stripes show no sign of fading or wear. Both rims are in excellent condition. All numbers match as they should, and the clear Wisconsin title is in my name, in hand. This bike starts easily, idles nicely, shifts smoothly and is a joy to ride. It has won numerous awards including first place at the 2009 Rockerbox event in Milwaukee, in the European Stock class. It achieved a 96-point score at the 1998 International BMWMOA Rally in West Bend, Wisconsin. The issues were minor and easily rectified. Since then, the bike has been converted to a 12 volt system with an alternator, electronic ignition, and electronic advance. This change is completely reversible, does not affect the classic look of the bike, and has resulted in a much smoother idle and more responsive throttle. However, you prefer to return the bike to bone stock, all 6 volt components are include in the sale except for a 6 volt battery. The sidecar is a period-correct Steib S 500. To improve sidecar operation, the bike has wide bars and flat-bottom tires, per BMW recommendations. The sidecar has a black canvas cover, luggage rack with leather straps, carpeted floor, and upholstered seat. There is no brake on the sidecar wheel. There is a bubble in the paint on the rear fender about 3/8” in diameter. The seat is the original Denfield saddle which has characteristic wear and some small cracks. I do not recommend replacing it. There are some chips in the paint on the fork and frame that happen if you actually ride, (or drive) a bike like this. None of them are noticeable from a few feet away. I have pampered this lovely machine for years, and I believe it is time to move on and let someone else enjoy it. I just don’t ride it much anymore. If you are looking for a classic to restore, this is not the bike for you. It deserves to remain a fine surviving example of German engineering. Check my ebay rating and bid with cofidence, I have sold 4 or 5 motorcycles on ebay over the years all to satisfied customers!
