This car has been sealed away in a time warp for nearly two decades it has been in storage for at least 16 years. This is an original California car that comes out of a Northern California Estate and will to be sold this week. 1969 is one of the most desirable years for many classic cars and with BMW the 2002 was the car that paved the trail for BMW in the United States and they have never looked back. The original owner passed away many years ago. And now the time has come for it to be liquidated. The car would be an ideal restoration project. Looking at the value from Hagerty insurance the BMW 2002's have steadily increased in value in the last few years. This is a undervalued collector car that will only go up in value. The car was resprayed the original #085 Chamonix White and is still quite shiny. All of the Stainless trim is original with no major issues other than the trim around the hood . The trim itself is nice but the plastic clips that attach to the hood need to be replaced. The actual trim was attached with double stick tape for the pictures out in the light. If you look closely you can see it is not perfect but can fixed with the correct clips.The body is very straight with no sign of any previous collision damage or repair.The factory Sunroof is in/op from lack of use. It will need the rails serviced as they are dry from lack of use.The interior is original and in pretty decent shape for being 44 years old. The passenger bucket has a quarter sized tear. The rear seat seating surface is intact but the back of the rear seat is split on the top. The carpet is complete but dirty. The dash has some age cracks. The console has been removed and is in the trunk. All of the glass works and is in good shape.It has an aftermarket wood wheel which I believe is a Nardi. The last time the registration was paid was in 1996. It is no longer in the California DMV data base Mechanically the car is complete with original matching Engine, Transmission and Rear end numbers. This car has not run in over 16 years possibly longer. We have made no attempt to get it running. It is being sold as a Roller and Not Running. The engine is not running. The fuel tank does not smell like varnish and seems to be completely empty of any fuel. The cooling system is also completely empty. The engine oil looks dirty but ok with no sign of any foreign matter.The oil cap at the value cover looks clean as does the valve train. The carb looks to be frozen as the linkage does not move. The transmission shifts through all the gears and the car was pushed outside by one person to take the photos you see here. What you are buying is a well preserved example of an iconic car but PLEASE don.t think you are going to drive it away. This engine should be disassembled and inspected before attempting to run. This is a Blue Chip investment that will only appreciate in value in the coming years. Having the original engine will make it the most value from a collector stand point but would be cool with a newer engine like 2.5 or a M-30 3.5 6 would be a neat swap. Either way it is clear what ever you do will ad value to this classic BMW which is a real rare find. This is a solid survivor and is in amazing shape for being 44 years old. I AM NOT SURE THE EXACT DIFFERENCE AS I RECALL THE 1602 HAVING A CHROME GRILL AND NO TACH AND A 1600 CC INSTEAD OF A 2000 CC ENGINE. I KNOW THIS IS A EARLY 1969 MODEL POSSIBLY BUILT IN LATE 1968 PER THE DECALS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE NUMBER ON THE HEAD SHOWS E12 WHICH IS CORRECT FOR A 2002 NO FRAUD INTENDED, THIS CAR IS OTHERWISE AS DESCRIBED. WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET, THE ENGINE HAS NOT RUN IN OVER 16 YEARS.
