Vehicle Detail
Offering for sale a 2003 Honda VFR800 VTEC Interceptor NON-ABS, in Force Silver. I am the third and longest owner. First owner had it from '03-'04, second owner (a master marine mechanic who took excellent care of it) from '04-'08, and now myself from '08 to present, I also come from an automotive background so I have kept the bike in top working order to the best of my ability. Being an '03/early VTEC model it has had a few of the electrical issues common to early VFR's- last year I upgraded the wiring harness with a "VFRness" and installed a new battery, this has largely addressed any abnormal behavior. The voltage regulator and stator are unmessed-with and original, it remains to be seen how long these components will hold up, but so far so good. I purchased the bike with approximately 19,600 miles on the clock. The second owner had just had the VTEC system checked and adjusted at 16k per the factory interval. Currently, the odometer just rolled over 31,000 so it will 'technically' be due for another check by 32k. I will state that I am a longtime VFR enthusiast, and from what I have researched and learned these bikes quite often need zero adjustment to the valves, so I believe there is some leeway. I would like to have the check/adjustment done while I still own the bike however my family is making some life changes and I would like to sell the bike and let the next owner handle it. Costs for the check by an experienced Honda mechanic have come down significantly over the years, they now average $300 completed by someone knowledgeable of VFR's. The bike will come with a Honda Factory Repair Manual. The valve adjustment is not outside the scope of the home mechanic, it is just a bit involved and requires patience. On to upgrades I have completed since 2008 from stock: for my convenience I wish to sell the bike with all accessories that I installed, my loss/ your gain: Givi E360 hard bags- excellent condition Givi Wingrack II- excellent condition, very solid/ extremely easy to use bag rack/ one turn of the key and press release bag pops off. Very solid. Helibars- excellent condition and make an already comfortable bike an outstandingly comfortable bike, STOCK BARS will be included. 'Manic Salamander' stainless steel bar end weights- lighten the steering and reduce any high frequency vibrations down to zero. Silver carbon fiber triple clamp cover- adds beauty and protects triple clamp from keys Magtech magnetic tank protector A neat bonus: I am an auto restorer/welder-fabricator...in 2010 I professionally cut open and gutted the stock exhaust, very clean job, and then TIG welded the end caps back in place...the bike sounds like a small block V8, just right IMHO, very reasonable at idle, and sounds tremendous at RPM especially when downshifting. VFR's have the best sound out there! The bike runs a little rich since this 'upgrade' and if you choose to you may install a Power Commander which would really tune it to perfection. Upgrades completed last year: Galfer wave rotors- $500 value, bike has only been ridden a couple thousand miles since last year so they are still NEW HH brake pads front/rear, full brake system flush and bleed > with the new rotors this bike has incredibly powerful front brakes, almost too powerful New high quality o-ring chain and sprockets front/rear- stock ratio > done at some time as brakes, so also only several thousand miles on them New battery "VFRness" wiring harness upgrade, stock harness checked and repaired. ****forgot to mention- also did a Vistacruise throttle lock Tires are in good condition, replaced less than 2 years ago, good amount of life left. Pilot Road 2 rear- good amount of life left, no major center wear yet Pilot Power front- moderate center wear, will need to be changed likely in the near future depending on how conservative you are. Paint and body are in excellent condition, especially considering the year, tank is immaculate. Front fairing has a few marks that have been touched up, paint on mirror bases is a bit bubbled, seat is in great condition. All around lovely. One of the cleanest '03's around I'd say. The previous owner completed these items in 2008 and just prior: Factory valve check/adjustment 16k miles Full coolant flush, thermostat, and hose replacement **he also had just done the chain and sprockets now that I remember. So I received the bike with a fresh set, and then last year I replaced them again** **he did spark plugs also now that I remember! From '08-'11 I put the majority of the miles from 19k to 31k--bike was ridden almost daily and mostly highway and backroads. As of last year the bike only gets ridden periodically and is garaged the rest of the time. Work and other commitments do not allow me to enjoy it how I once did. This bike has been taken care of and ridden by experienced sport riders so you can be assured that the engine has been run properly, not abused but not babied. The VTEC system functions as it should. The upgrades (bags/bars/brakes etc) are at least a $1500.00+ new value all together, the exhaust adds a cool factor, and future maintenance factored in I have priced the bike accordingly for a smooth and expedited sale. This is a good bike with many many miles left in it. In fact, these VTEC's have been quite commonly known to reach 90k miles with no problem other than required maintenance. Hondas are the best. I have ridden many bikes in my time as a rider, and this one is without a doubt the best middle weight sport-oriented street bike ever made. LOCAL PICKUP *Clear Title *Has never been wrecked. All fairings and body parts original. These are all good things. Consider that if you were a motivated buyer you could remove the basically brand new Galfer rotors and replace them with some eBay rotors and sell the Galfers for a profit, not to mention the bags ETC. I have chosen not to do this simply to save myself time. I am wishing to pass on a nice bike with all the things required to go sport-touring immediately.
