Vehicle Detail
Hello, Up for auction, I'm pleased (but also a bit sad) to present this 1988 Jaguar XJ-SC V12 HE. 81,648 original miles. This car runs and drives just about perfectly - no excuses. It's been well taken care of. I bought the car on eBay about 2 years ago with a one line description "New Paint, Strong Runner". No other description. It turns out that some of that description was true. The car had, in fact, been painted, and had received some restoration attention in the past years. New headliner, and white perloid paint. The Good: It needed some attention, which I gave it. I have receipts for over $8K in work since. Major items serviced included: - Whole rear end assembly serviced. - New rear rotors and calipers. - Installation of a new rear end with a higher gear ratio for better acceleration As you may know, in these cars, to get to the rear calipers and rotors, you need to drop the whole rear end assembly out of the car. While it was out, I proactively replaced the whining rear end and upgraded it at the same time. The car is now FAST. It's not as RPM-friendly cruising at 100mph speeds on the highway (although I still do), but I tended to use it more for around-town driving and it screams. - New injectors. New fuel lines (no fires, please). - A/C Serviced. The A/C blows cold, but has a slow leak. I refill it myself every few months and it blows cold. Spent a fortune - New tires all around (pirelli p zero - almost new) (old tires were dry-rotted). - All new parking brake assembly including handle, ratchet, cable, etc. - New high-end stereo. iPod jack in glovebox, replaced dead speakers. $1800 there. - Had upholstery shop repair seam separation on front seats. Seats have creasing but no tears or rips. - New battery (Diehard platinum, manufactured by Odyssey) The Bad: Body: When I received the car, there was some bubbling around the driver's real wheel arch and the corner of the rear window. I sanded, filled and primed these, but haven't yet matched the paint. They're primed with a white primer and were masked nicely. You don't notice these 10 feet away, and they're masked really tightly. These three small areas are highlighted on the last three pictures in this listing. The car has a small rear main seal leak (they all do!). In heavy driving, it doesn't use a quart of oil each month, but it does leave little calling cards on the driveway. In my estimation, it's not worth dropping transmission to fix this at this time. Your call as to whether you want to tend to it. Some of the dash lights are out. You can see the speedo, but not the tach at night. Net: Anyway, the car runs and drives great. Turns heads everywhere, is fast, elegant, and everything a Jaguar should be. It's a blast to drive around, and aside from the small items I mention above, everything works. Passed PA inspection recently. Also comes with a Griot's garage (Yellow) custom car cover that was made specifically to accommodate the rear spoiler. When not driven, it's ALWAYS been under this cover. This was $400. The gallery of pictures included in this listing shows the car TODAY. Note that in addition to the 12 pics max of eBay, there is a larger gallery of pictures here on Flikr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26627271@N04/sets/72157634133013116/ There is also a 15 minute video, also taken today of the car running and driving around shot by my daughter and me. Stay tuned if you're interested in the car - in addition to the driving scenes, there is an interior and exterior walk-around. It ends showing the mileage at the end of that drive. I'm going to leave it parked as such until you pick it up (if you're the winning bidder). What you see on the video will be exactly what you get (although it might not be quite as clean by then).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXLmn0WOHTE I'm taking a chance here, but I'm going to sell NO RESERVE, it sells to the highest bidder. Why am I selling? I recently consolidated homes, and now I have 10 cars in my driveway, which my wife thinks is "too much". Be on the lookout for a number of rare and interesting cars (mostly BMWs) that I'll be listing, including my 323i/Baur, my E21 320i in almost factory condition, and my 540i M/Sport. When you buy the car, I need a $500 Paypal payment in 24 hours. Balance needs to be sent certified funds within 7 business days, and then I'll fedex you the title and you can make arrangements to pick up the car and drive it home or have it transported. I've bought and sold a dozen or more cars on eBay so I know the drill. I will not arrange transport for you, but I will help with loading into the carrier of your choice, or I will pick you up from the nearest airport or train station if you want to drive the car home. Car is in the Philadelphia suburbs. And to answer in advance the most common question I get selling cars on eBay: "Will the car make it back to XXXX?" I can't give you advice here. The car runs and drives fine. I've driven it all over town and on the highway. It works. In the video, you can see me driving it hard today. That said, it's a British car and it's over 20 years old, and it's a Jaguar. If it were me, I'd drive it within a radius of 100 miles and have it delivered otherwise. That said, your risk/adventure tolerance might be different than mine. Just keep in mind that this is your call. If you are an INTERNATIONAL bidder - please ask for permission before you bid. Please email me with any questions! On Jun-14-13 at 19:47:39 PDT, seller added the following information:One quick disclosure I just thought of in watching the video: You will notice the rear-view mirror in the center console. Whoever re-did the headliner didn't have the heart to put holes in it to mount the rear-view mirror and neither did I. It's fine, and ready for you to mount if you want to.
