Vehicle Detail

Beautiful example of a 1974 VW Super Beetle Daily Driver  ready to love, drive, restore or keep. Nothing is hidden in this sale - everything is fully  disclosed. HISTORY: I bought this Beetle from a neighbor. He was selling this car for way too much  money and every day I drove by it, hoping it would get a good owner. I have two 1971 Beetles,  one hard top and one convertible that I love! My first Beetle was a 1974 just like this and I have SO MANY PARTS for it, my  wife suggested I just bite the bullet and buy the car and it would free up all of the space where the  1974 parts were! What a brilliant idea it was, so I made the buy. The owner grew up with the car and he had to call his mom so they could say  goodbye together. They loved it, but could not keep it any longer and wanted it to go to a good home. Since then, I bought all of the parts that were missing like the antenna, the  plastic clips for the ends of the bumpers, trunk liner, fabric for the headliner and more. I have new  door panels, seat covers, seat padding, impact strips and also dash parts and console parts that were  missing. I also have an original steering wheel with the Wolfsburg horn button which  would cost about $150 as a set and a new dash cover and a list of parts not installed below. Here is the ad the owner ran on craigslist before  he sold it to me: He did SO MUCH mechanical work. Do keep in mind,  it has a header exhaust and not a dual pipe traditional muffler. It is mildly modified, but the engine and  transmission are totally solid. I have the car ON THE ROAD and it is insured and FAILED  THE INSPECTION for the tires only, as you can see below by the actual inspection report. I have changed  it from a New Hampshire car to having a totally clear Massachusetts Title. FAILED FOR BALD TIRES IN REAR Here is a list of NEW parts I bought that  will come for FREE with this car when you buy it: This does NOT include over $700 worth of additional  parts that I have mentioned below in the description including seat upholstery, steering wheel, running  boards and more. Hand brake boot, headlight, bumper guards, bumper rubber, antenna, hand brake boot. Wolfsburg horn button Original 1974 steering wheel, new running boards Even the Volkswagen chrome emblem that goes on the deck lid all included when you get the car. NOW DOWN TO THE ACTUAL CAR - HERE ARE THE  PICTURES: Overall, this is a very solid Beetle for New England. It has some of the classic  rusting, but virtually no rot through and the frame is totally solid, as well as where all the bumper  points attach. One floor panel on the passenger side was replaced -the rockers are a bit sketchy but not bad.   There is damage on the hood from someone stepping on it apparently which looks like it only affected  the paint, and under the handle on the hood, there is rust which goes all the way through in a few  pinholes, but does not affect the functionality of the hood or the shape. The black paint job is over  the original canary yellow paint - the finish is oxidized to the point that it looks like the car was painted with  primer or flat black. Here you can see the foot print that looks like a smiley face in the pain on the  driver's side of the hood, and you can see the rust a bit better. The front bumper is level and comes  with the impact strip which is very expensive. The bumper shocks which are impossible to get now are  in great shape and the grommets meet the fenders no problem. The plastic caps that go on the ends  of the bumpers I have new in a packet that comes with the car, and one low beam is burned and I have  the bulb. The wiper blades are shot, but the wiper motor and wipers work fine - I have included  replacement Bosch blades as well with the car for free. All of the glass is in perfect condition.  The vent windows work. These RIVERA MAG WHEELS are not original - only the spare tire has the original  rim and I don't have any other option. They do look cool, but if you wanted originals, you can  get them from Motorworks for about $700 with new tires shipped freight. Otherwise, 3 of the 4 tires  stay inflated and the back rear will only stay up for 24 hours. It may be the valve, I didn't see any  holes. The car failed inspection because the tires had insufficient tread, so at some point, at least 2 new tires  would be a good idea and those are not included. The doors and the rear quarter have some rust at the bottom, but not too bad.  The rockers, as I said are not bad either. It needs running boards which I have and are included for free when you buy the  car. Passenger side looks good - there is rust behind the rear side vents as is  typical for this year. It has not rotted through, but grinding it out could be a good idea if you are doing a  restore. The rear passenger fender has some metal tape on it but has its shape and no impact damage. The gutters are solid and the roof is very nice. The deck lid is in very good  shape and so are the tail lamps, except the seal is missing on the left. The rear bumper is in very  good shape and I have the impact strip and the plastic side caps. The bumper is a bit crooked, about  3/4" low on the right side. I can't detect any damage to the frame and both bumper shocks are in good shape  (also very hard to get - almost impossible). There is a photo down the page which shows how  it is attached. This may be the reason it is low, but you will notice the left grommet fits perfectly and  the one on the right won't quite snap into place. The rear skirt has chipped off paint and needs a bit of attention, but not  replacement. Just another shot of the passenger side. Here is what the driver's side rocker looks like. The passenger floor pan was replaced and the driver's side was not. It is  not too bad, but there are some pinholes in the typical spots. Inside the rear wheel well, it looks really good. The car was always  undercoated and the mounts are all totally solid, no issues at all there. Here you can see where that 3/4" off bumper bracket is mounted. Everything  is solid here, maybe new bolts and washers will do the trick. The activated charcoal filter that is  supposed to be here on the 1974 is not here and I don't have one or I would include it. It was  removed when the carb was replaced and the air filter changed from stock to performance. You can also see the new glass pack muffler and header kit that the last owner  lovingly installed. Not my favorite, and as he described in his ad, it is covered in surface rust - BUT  it is totally sealed and tight, which is hard on the VWs so it is probably worth keeping. It  changes the sound a bit and you won't get the sewing machine effect, but it is quiet for a bug muffler and  sounds strong. Passenger side has a new floor pan welded in including the battery tray which is  rock solid. This is the new pan and the original rocker which looks ok, but has rust. The trunk looks pretty good - has the original spare rim with the center cap and  a tire you can inflate that stays inflated in case you wanted to use it for the rear tire which won't hold  air for over 24 hours. I didn't use it because the rim is different and the tire is narrower than the 195-65-15  tires on the car now. Under the trunk hood looks good - it opens and closes fine and latches. The trunk cardboard is new and in pretty good shape. It is reproduction and you  can put a carpet kit over it if you like that look. The front apron is in good shape, no holes and the slats are straight which is  unusual for a beetle that gets regular use. Wheel well is solid, no rust through or soft spots detected at all. Put in the missing window washer tank and cap which is also a very valuable item  - the valves are in good shape and it is ready to hook up to the tire. Trunk with tire, cardboard and tank. Inside the interior is not too bad. There is a new carpet kit with all but  the piece for the passenger side rocker which I have not been able to locate without buying a complete  carpet kit. You will notice a close ratio shifter was installed and a custom steering wheel. I  have an original 1974 Wolfsburg edition wheel and center horn button which will cost big money. If you like the  GT steering wheel, I would like to keep the Wolfsburg one. The dash is just about compete but  the top has sun damage, then a glued on dash cover which then got sun damage, so I ordered a new dash  cover which will come for free with the purchase of this car. The last owner put in a tachometer  and some other gauge and but didn't hook them up. The seats are pretty nice reupholstered fabric but the driver's side could   use more padding for daily driving. Not shown on my receipt, but included for free is an ORIGINAL  REPRO UPHOLSTERY VINYL SEAT KIT with SEAT PADDING KITS as well. This is worth a few hundred  dollars. They are still in the box and go on with the hog rings. There is an aftermarket radio - the door speakers were removed. I have new DOOR  PANELS too that are original reproduction and I have the clips to install them. These are  included at no charge when you buy the car. The vinyl insert under the steering wheel is  missing and I don't have that. The wire cover is just rested down below the ash tray but is  included and also very difficult to find if you don't have one! This shows with the carpet kit peeled back a bit. The brown you see on the  original yellow paint is carpet glue and not rust. It has a brand new battery. The ignition turns the car on and off but the  starter was moved to a button by the back seat for some reason. I would move it back, but some  people like it. The engine is in great shape and fires right up. As stated, the exhaust  was modified and the carburetor was changed, as well as the air filter. I don't have an  original air filter to offer but you can get them. All of the work done on the engine, including the NEW  CLUTCH are listed in the scan of the craigslist ad I put at the top of this page. Some chrome engine tin was installed etc. BELOW IS A VIDEO OF ME STARTING THE CAR AND TAKING IT AROUND THE BLOCK FOR A  RIDE. BELOW IS A VIDEO OF ME STARTING THE CAR AND TAKING IT  AROUND THE BLOCK FOR A RIDE. Anything you think I left out about the car, please  contact me. You can call me at 617-266-8998 or you can email me about the car. Just mention you are calling  about the Beetle on eBay. Once sold, the proceeds will go to fix the top on my 1971 convertible. A  very good cause!
