Vehicle Detail
I purchased this car a couple years ago from the second owner as a father son project. However, my son would rather fish and I would rather work on British sports cars. So the project has reached a good stopping point and I would like to move it on to someone who enjoys restoring rare Mustangs. First the history, the second owner purchased the car when it was only a couple years old from a young man in New Orleans. Supposedly, he and his wife were taking a drive and saw the car parked at a large house with a for sale sign in it. They stopped and looked at it and the young man explained that he had bought the Mach 1 new but had recently purchased a new Trans Am and needed to sell the Mustang. They bought the Mustang and drove it to Florida when the owner, who was an engineer, obtained a new job. (Below is a picture of the car soon after they arrived in Florida.) The car was originally green, however, the owner had the car restored back the in 1980s and had it painted silver. He drove the car until 1991 when the engine blew and then parked the car. He had intended to repair the car but never got around to it. I purchased the car because I liked the story and it was like a time capsule. The car was complete down to the 8-track player, bias ply spare and the 1991 registration in glove box. However, the floors were partially rusted out, the paint was faded due to the Florida sun and the driver’s seat had been stolen. My son stripped the paint and applied a light coat of protective primer. We had the passenger and trunk floors cut out and replaced. I purchased a second H code Mach 1, with significant rust issues and harvested a date correct 351 Cleveland, a driver’s seat and period wheels. We replaced the bottom of the quarter panels and began patching some minor rust spots. Fortunately the rockers were in great shape. There are still a few small rust spots that need to be repaired. Plus, when we removed the windshield we discovered some rust damage around the seal and near the driver’s side wiper. In addition to the repair panels, we added an after-market trunk lid and right front fender. We bought a third Mach 1, and harvested a driver’s side front fender and two nice doors (the original doors also come with the car.) We installed the 351C, replacing the carburetor, starter, radiator, front shocks, fuel pump, fuel lines, gas tank, etc. The car runs, drives and stops well but does have a brake fluid leak and no windshield. This is a good solid project that needs someone interested in finishing it. The auction is for the car, all original body parts and any bits and pieces we’ve removed. I’m also selling separately the two parts cars I mentioned for $500 each or $900 for both. The first is an H code car with an open title, the second parts car has a nice body shell. Thanks for reading this. I would also entertain a trade for a foreign sports car! Please don’t hesitate to call me for questions or to see the car. 863-640-2905 PS I’m sure some of you have noted that the bumpers are from a 1972. When we started the project I decided to convert the car to the much lighter 1972 bumpers. I still have the battering ram of a bumper that came on the car and the original fenders and doors with all of the trim. The car is currently assembled for pictures and transport.
