One of the cars he helped build won the 1998 Americas Most Beautiful Roadster Award. (Dave Emory's 1932 Ford "Revolver") Darrell built this car approximately 5 years ago and has driven it 2500 miles since completion. The chassis is made of 14ga tube and was completely Tig welded. Rear suspension is fully adjustable with double trailing arms. Porsche 914 front end and steering box. All four corners of the car are fitted with fully adjustable Aldan Coil Overs. Wilwood Clutch and brake master cylinder. 4 wheel Porsche disc brakes. 914 Type 4 Porsche engine was completely rebuilt by Allen Johnsen racing engines. (with receipts) 1.9 litre, stainless 40 and 34mm valves, moly retainers, 911 cups, dual valve springs, and Keith Black 96mm pistons and 24mm pins. All fully balanced and blueprinted. Topped with Weber 40mm downdraft carbs , electronic ignition, electric fuel pump, and a custom made cooling shroud utilizing 2 vw fans. Darrell did a flow test on the shroud to assure proper cooling to each cylinder. In addition there are 3 oil coolers, one in the shroud and one behind each rocker panel scoop. Transmission is a porsche 901 5 speed, very nice for around town and the freeway. Exhaust is made of Stainless steel and tig welded. Fully custom body built by Darrell based off of the original 550 body and modified to create a very unique and more modern look. It even has forward opening doors! Show quality paint and excellent body gaps and fitment. Darrell knows fiberglass, he founded Zipper Motors years ago, a company that specializes in building early Ford bodies and chassis. Interior is very minimal with ultrasuede seats, removeable racing steering wheel, and Haneline Gauges. The Top has an aluminum frame and covered in Hartz Stayfast Canvas. It removes with only 4 allen head bolts, 2 minutes, and weighs 20lbs. This 550 weighs 1600lbs wet and makes over 120hp, a very fun combination. It handles like a race car, very tight and nimble, and really a fun car to drive...especially being on the right hand side! Titled as a 1973 Porsche coupe. made cooling shroud utilizing 2 vw fans. Darrell did a flow test on the shroud
to assure proper cooling to each cylinder. In addition there are 3 oil coolers,
one in the shroud and one behind each rocker panel scoop. Transmission is a
porsche 901 5 speed, very nice for around town and the freeway. Exhaust is made
of Stainless steel and tig welded. Fully custom body built by Darrell based off
of the original 550 body and modified to create a very unique and more modern
look. It even has forward opening doors! Show quality paint and excellent body gaps and fitment. Darrell knows fiberglass, he founded
Zipper Motors years ago, a company that specializes in building early Ford
bodies and chassis. Interior is very minimal with ultrasuede seats, removeable
racing steering wheel, and Haneline Gauges. The Top has an aluminum frame and
covered in Hartz Stayfast Canvas. It removes with only 4 allen head bolts, 2
minutes, and weighs 20lbs. This 550 weighs 1600lbs wet and makes over 120hp, a
very fun combination. It handles like a race car, very tight and nimble, and
really a fun car to drive...especially being on the right hand side! Titled as a
1973 Porsche coupe.
