Vehicle Detail
A well cared for and barely used 1972 Slash 5 with the extended swing arm. Everything works and it rides great. Still has everything original except the mufflers are new. Fairing in excellent condition. On May-05-13 at 08:34:06 PDT, seller added the following information: My mistake, no the paint is not original but that is the only other thing that isn't. It was painted back in the 80's. According to the man I got it from. Who ever did it, did a nice job. All of the lights work and electrics. All of the bulbs light. The previous owner claimed it had the original points in it, which I changed. The tires are newer which I changed and I have adjusted the valves myself. There aren't any detailed maintenance records, but the bike only has 14,800 some odd miles on it, 3000 of which I put on myself. The bike has never been apart and as far as I know still has the original brakes. I bought this bike on Ebay 2 years ago and rode it over 1000 miles from Iron Mountain, Michigan to Charlotte, NC. I wouldn't hesitate to take it on another trip anywhere. I am a member of the Carolina BMW group where there are guys that know more about these bikes than I do. It is a nice one, NOT perfect but it is 41 years old. It also has had a recent oil change but the tool kit is missing. I do believe I am the 3rd owner. The guy Pete I bought it from a couple of years ago said he bought it in 78. He was a machinist and flew his own plane. He told me he only drove it back and forth to the airport, one mile each way. When I bought it, it was just for the shear fun of going to Iron Mountain Michigan and riding it back. My wife works for the airlines and I can fly free. This is only one of many bikes I have had the unique opportunity to have flown and rode. Once I get back home to North Carolina, I tend to sell them. This one I have had for longer than most but I am inching to fly and ride more this year and this bike's time has come. I really haven't done much to this bike, I did replace the points and the mufflers. Pete had rigged up a couple of old Harley plastic side bags on it and a little plastic top box that I threw away. The rear box did rub a spot on the back of the seat at the base where the molding is below where it says R75 on the back of the seat. It is a blemish but not torn. I really don't know anymore about the paint color except Pete had it done and it still looks nice. The wheels look great and don't have any dents and I did put on both tires so the are newer. I do have a clean NC title and the bike has been inspected, but the registration ran out last year and it may be due for another, I'm not sure. The grips appear to be original, the mirrors are the ones that where on it when I got it, so I can't answer the mirror question. The fairing and crash bar were also on it when I got it and are solidly mounted and look great. I will say that as nice as it is, there are 2 older guys in my club that have nicer ones. One guy won't part with his and the other one the guy won't part with his unless you have $5500. I posted out to the club to see if I can get my hands on a tool kit, but when I got the bike, the few tools that came with it were just in the tray under the seat and now they are mixed up with my other tools. - dsuperfanOn May-08-13 at 17:30:11 PDT, seller added the following information: Wow I never expected so many emails and I had no idea how popular this bike is. Its a shame I only have one. But to reiterate and to try to answer all of your questions for those who are not sure, The bike is a very low mileage R75/5 It was manufactured in Jan. 1972. It does have matching numbers on the engine and the frame and it has a clear North Carolina title in my name. The bike had to be inspected by the NCDMV when I first got it in order to be registered here in NC. The bike also had to pass a safety inspection when I got a tag. The tag has been out since last summer but is stored with the carburetors run dry. The bike fires up without any problem and runs very good. The bike IS road worthy and I would not hesitate to ride it cross country. I rode it over a 1000 miles from Iron Mountain Michigan when I bought it 2 years ago and since have put another 2000 miles on it. I replaced the tires then and they still look great and hold air. So, you can ride it to Fayetteville, or Oklahoma or Virginia or any other place you may be bidding from. Other questions, I do not know if it will go over 4000 or not. as many of you that asked, its a no reserve auction so bid early and bid often. I will be glad to store the bike for any length of time needed as long as you pay for the bike at the end of the auction. And yes I will ride the bike for you if you can't get here yourself. and yes I will ship over seas.
