Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very nice 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon with manual transmission. The bad: A very nice car, but it is a "mechanic's special". This vehicle is beginning to get a rod knock, and has minor corrosion starting at the front of the rear wheel wells. The air conditioning will also need to be recharged. The good: It has no other issues except for a few minor scratches that are detailed in the photos and a very small chip in the windshield. This vehicle is not a Limited, is more functional, and something of a stripper model with the relatively uncommon black cloth interior with manual seats and no moon roof. The car does have the winter package with heated windshield wiper deicers, heated mirrors and heated seats. Car has brand new Dunlop SP Sports in the proper speed and load rating for a vehicle of this capability. Car has also been fitted with Whiteline brand front lower control arm bushings that replace the weak rubber puck design and allows for caster adjustment to the front alignment. A full timing belt service was done less than 15K ago, and a 10mm Subaru oil pump was also fitted at that time. All hoses were replaced during that service as well. Engine is a 2008 shortblock with 2004 STi heads that were installed at approximately 68K by Subaru. At that time the clutch was also replaced. Lighting is Hella 200, relayed and slaved to the high beams. Car is equipped with a satellite radio tuner. Interior is clean, no rips in the upholstery, and only minor wear to the driver's side bolster. Differentials have been consistently serviced with Lucas oil, and the transmission shifts smoothly with no issue. All electronics, displays and electrical systems work as they should. Wipers are new. Alternator is brand new. Front brake lines were replaced with the calipers with Goodridge stainless lines. The rear lines are not installed yet, but come with the car. I was waiting for the rear calipers to wear out before doing them. Brakes are all good and car will pass PA inspection which is good until December. Turbocharger was replaced just before timing belt with a new VF40 unit and the oil screen was replaced. O2 sensor was recently replaced with new Subaru. Plugs were also done at that time with Subaru/NGK. PCV and air inlet tube were replaced with turbo too. Knock sensor was recently replaced. Acc. belts are both pretty new. Car has lockable Subaru roof racks as shown in the photo and Subaru cargo liner. Cargo area carpeting is still pretty nice and clean. 2 keyless entry fobs, 2 coded keys, and 2 valet keys are included. Car actually runs well still, and the knock is only audible during the "float" between accel at cruise over 3K RPM. Engine has not been run much since the knock was discovered. Engine otherwise runs quietly and smoothly. There are no codes and no valvetrain noises, etc. I have not driven the car much at all since the knock was discovered and have driven it very lightly. I believe that a turbo failure led somehow to the damage. I'd looked over the valvetrain after repairing the turbo and all looked fine, but I think eventually something got to a rod bearing, in spite of the black nitride crankshaft and the 10mm oil pump. Intercooler was thoroughly washed out too, but there was little debris in it that I could see when I strained the flush solvent. Crank oil had no apparent debris in it too. Could certainly be driven home as long as you don't abuse the engine. I hate to sell this unique version of a Legacy GT wagon, but I simply don't have the time to repair the engine and my wife has told me she'd prefer an automatic for the family car, so I am hoping to sell as-is at a reduced price. The new Subaru induction hardened crankshaft, a new set of ACL bearings and a gasket kit are probably all this engine needs if you have the time and ability to do the work. Please email me with any questions about any aspect of this car that might be important to you. I have other photos of specific areas if you would like. Thank you for looking. On Apr-28-13 at 17:58:10 PDT, seller added the following information: Ebay has not allowed me to make a change to the listing, but I do request a deposit of $500 within 48 hours of the end of the auction.
