Vehicle Detail
This ’71 240Z, built 4/71, #29597, was a desert car for 30 years in 29 Palms, CA. It was then sold to a collector in Los Angeles who had it for 2 years. I purchased it and drove it home to Northern California. I began to rebuild it to like new condition as a daily driver for my wife; but she bought a new hybrid before the project was finished. Now she wants her garage space back! I have over $13,000 in receipts and more than two years work into the car. It drives and looks almost like new, which is what I set out to achieve. Since completion of this project, the car has never been on wet roads or in foul weather. It has been through a top and bottom pressure spray to assure there are no water leaks. I have driven it approximately 8,000 miles with 100% reliability. This is our fourth Z and although this one is a little stronger than original, it drives and sounds like a new ‘71 Z. This car is turn key ready to drive cross country at any time! A rebuilt later model, more powerful, L28 engine was installed before I purchased the car. Besides the newer engine, I chose to use a 1972 transmission and center console to match, which was an upgrade over the ‘71 model. I was more concerned with overall reliability rather than staying with the more problem prone ‘71 trans shift shafts. The car is repainted the original #919 color. The rear interior was so clean it was not repainted and is a perfect match. The original color sticker is still on the radiator support. The paint is acrylic enamel with blocked and polished clear coat (smoother than original new). The seatbelts were upgraded to modern inertia reel on the original anchor points. The radio was upgraded to an AM/FM/CD player with new upgraded speakers, new retractable antenna, all in the original positions, with new wiring, and no cutting of any non-factory holes.
