Vehicle Detail
I'm selling my beloved 2010 BMW F 800 GS motorcycle because I haven't been riding it enough and I've got a baby on the way. I bought it at the end of May 2010 in order to do some touring with my wife in Utah. Life changes mean that I'm probably going to put the money from selling this towards a nice VW Westy camper that I can enjoy with the family. I'm definitely going to miss this bike as it's able to handle anything you throw at it. 300-400 mile days touring on tarmac? Carving the canyons on a short ride after work? Miles of fire trails in the bike country? All no problem. I've got it set up for all those things with nice crash bars, aluminum panniers, and a few other extras you'll see below. The model is a 2010 BMW F 800 GS with ABS and the upgraded trip computer. Includes center stand. To that I've added:SW-MOTECH Aluminum Engine Guard (a must have on these bikes since the oil filter is right in line with where rocks would come off the front wheel) ~$160SW-MOTECH Crash bars (these provide great protection, don't get in the way, and make the bike look even better) ~$200Genuine Barkbusters VPS Hand Guards and Wind Deflectors ~$1601 Off Motorsports Xenon HID Light System for the low beam (provides a great bight white beam) ~$100Happy-trail Teton Cliff-cut 7.5" Hammertone Black Panniers, with puck mount system and sex of six liner bags ~$950Power Controller (eliminates snatchy throttle. Trivial to remove if you decide to since it just plugs in inline) ~$85Touratech Kick Stand Extension ~$30Barpack map case ~$40RAM Mount and power cable for a Garmin ZUMO 220 (The GPS unit itself isn't included since I use it in my car. If you really want it you can buy it off me for an extra $250. It's a great unit that's ruggedized for motorcycle use and cost $430 new 2 1/2 years ago) ~$40Haynes F 800 GS repair manual ~$20CycleGear cover ~$40There's just a little bit of time left on the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, but I haven't had any notable problems with the bike. The 600 mile service was done at the dealer and then I had them address the known issue of the weeping oil on the valve covers at about 3000 miles. They swapped over to the new design of the valve cover gasket and I haven't seen any issues since then. I just recently did the ~6k service myself when the light came on and everything's in great shape. This is a very easy bike to work on as it avoids some of the much more complicated and expensive-to-fix systems found on the bigger BMW bikes. Surprisingly there's perhaps 30% of the life left on the original front and rear tires. I mostly used the bike for touring and highway trips with the ocasional dirt fire road. I've never crashed her and the paint is in very good shape. Overall I'm a pretty conservative rider. The only negative things of note are the usual small scratches on the wind screen, some surface rust on the center stand, and various small wear and tear you'd expect on a three year old bike (i.e. not showroom fresh but still in great shape.) If you're looking for a used F 800 GS, I don't think you'd be disappointed in any way with this one. Any of the additions I've made are easy to reverse so the bike is essentially stock. Bike is sold as-is and where-is. You are responsible for all shipping or pickup. I may be able to deliver the bike within 100 miles of San Luis Obispo, CA if you bribe me with a six-pack of craft beer. I'd also be happy to pick you up from the airport if you decide to fly in and ride the bike home. $1000 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction closing. This deposit is non-refundable unless I have materially misrepresented the either the details or condition of the motorcycle. If you have questions or concerns about the bike ask them before you place the bid, not after the auction is complete.
