Vehicle Detail
This is a 1978 BMW R80/7 with matching numbers. It had been purchased by an acquaintance from an estate sale after sitting for several years in a garage. He got it running and then rode it for a couple of months before I bought it from him. The engine has a Dyna III ignition, runs well, but is running rich. The transmission shifts well and goes through the gears properly. The odometer stopped working shortly after I bought it, but I believe the actual mileage to be around 30,000. With the exception of the front brake light switch, the remaining lights, indicators and horn all work. The tank is in nice shape, has no dents, and is clean inside. The frame has rust in several places, much of which has been touched up. The undersides of the exhaust headers are rusty, as is the crossover, but are solid. The mufflers are in nice shape though and are solid. Most exposed fasteners have light to heavy rust. The pushrod seals leak and I will include the necessary gaskets & seals to reseal the top end. The tires need replacing. The fork boots are torn. The battery that was in it is the wrong amperage but does start the bike. The seat looks to have been recently recovered, has no tears and is missing the passenger grab rail The tool tray is also missing, but the original tool kit and tire pump are included. Regarding the VIN: The VIN had dropped out of the Calif. DMV records and the title had been lost. I had the required VIN & engine # inspection done by the CHP. The inspecting officer old me that on the older BMW's they now require the model number to be the first digits of the VIN, so he recorded on the inspection form the VIN as I listed above and also as it appears on the title. As you can see, it needs quite a bit of attention and is sold "as is." I have done my best to describe its overall condition. I'm selling it with no reserve, so if this looks like a good project for you, don't let it get away!
