Vehicle Detail

This 1989 VOLVO 240DL is being offered for sale with NO RESERVE price. This car would be good for one of a couple situations: 1) It could be used for parts. Since it has low miles, the parts from it are probably better than a lot of used parts you might find. I thought about parting it out myself, but I am in the middle of remodeling a house, and I just don't have the time.2) I believe it could be fixed up by someone who can do engine work, and it would result in a pretty good car. Other than the engine, I don't believe there would be much more significant expense that would be required to make this a daily driven car in nice condition. The bad news:This car overheated. I took it to my mechanic and he said that the head gasket was probably damaged. I am not a mechanic, so please don't ask me detailed questions about what it will take to repair it. If you don't know what this means, you should not bid on this vehicle. My mechanic did not tear into it, but he seemed to be fairly confident of his diagnosis. For the purposes of bidding, you should assume the engine does not work (although I can occasionally get it started, it runs very rough). It is not drivable, so it will require towing to move. I do not have towing capability, so you will have to get it where it is going. On the drivers side, there are a couple spots of surface rust around the rear wheel well and lower kick panel. On the passenger side, there is also some surface rust the corner of a door, and a quarter-sized hole in the kick panel. The good news:Other than what was mentioned above, this car is in pretty good shape, especially for its age, as you can see by the photos. This car has extra low miles for its age...only 115,583. It is a shame it is not currently running, because finding these cars is not easy with this low of mileage and they often go 200K-300K without any major problems. As you can see in the photos, the interior is pretty nice for a 1989 vehicle. I'd rate it an 8.5 out of 10. There is nothing major wrong with the dark blue cloth seats and trim. I would rate the exterior a 7.5. Bear in mind, it is a 1989 car, so it has a few minor blemishes other than what I noted above, but nothing that should surprise you. The body is in good shape with no major dings or damage. After overheating (due to a leaky radiator) I installed a new radiator, which unfortunately did not solve the problem, but it is still there, so that should be worth something. The tires on it are decent, and as far as we know, everything else worked on the car when the overheating event occurred. It has power windows and doors and even heated seats. The transmission, AC, and heating system worked fine. Brakes were good. The car was not ever wrecked or smoked in as far as we know. This was my daughter's car and she absolutely loved it. (She now has a VW Jetta, but would trade it back if the Volvo ran like it used to). Please do not bid on this car if you are not sure you want to purchase it. This is a bid to own it, not to come and look at it. I am requiring a $300 downpayment within 24 hrs of the sale, so please make sure to do that if you are the winning bidder. You are expected to complete the purchase and pick up the vehicle within 10 days unless we agree to other arrangements. Good luck bidding!
