Vehicle Detail

I am listing my 1973 Lotus Europa Twin Cam Special for sale here. I really had no intention of selling this when I bought it, at least not this soon, but when offered the chance to acquire my 73 year old uncle's 1955 Chevy that he has had for many years, I need to part with this and my MGB to fund the purchase. His Chevy is a car that needs to stay in the family so I need to step up and get it. All this said, here is a complete and honest description of this car as it sits here today. This car had sat for 11 years prior to my purchase of it. The gentleman I purchased it from merely parked it in his garage when he bought it and never drove it. I have a copy of the newspaper ad when he purchased it, his copy of his cashiers check, a copy of the title from the previous owner to him, a copy of the ad from which I purchased the car, as well as a little history on the car from my buddy who knew of the car well over 20 years ago. I have a clear Missouri title in my name to transfer ownership to you when the car is paid for in full. VEHICLE CONDITION Since I purchased it, some mechanical restoration was done to the car to bring it back to drivable condition. It now runs and drives but will need some more attention to make it a reliable driver. I drove it 3-18 4.2 miles at speeds up to 60 to get it home prior to listing it. Work recently preformed Fuel tanks were removed, boiled out, and lined then reinstalled. Fuel tank sending unit was cleaned up and is working properly. Carbs were disassembled and cleaned up. New plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, and vacuum module on the distributor. Oil & filter changed using Castrol GTX 20w/50. New rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders. All lines flushed and bled. New battery. Cables repaired. Mechanical areas that will still need attention: One u-joint in the transaxle will need replaced. Most would stop there and say that will fix it but the cap is turning in the transaxle so a new end or a replacement shaft will be needed to repair correctly, more than likely. The shift linkage has the usual play in it associated with Europas but the transmission shifts correctly with no grinding. The thermostatic switch for the radiator cooling fan will need replaced as the fan stays on currently. The exhaust pipe needs to be replaced between the muffler and the downpipe from the manifold. The brake boosters were removed but all parts are here as you can see from one photo. They need to be rebuilt if you plan to put them back on. Once again, I retained all of the parts so you can put it all back on the car. The Michelin tires have good tread but are too old to trust so plan on replacing them. This will also improve the handling tremendously as the tires no doubt have some flat spots in them from sitting all these years. The wipers work but the motor is slow. Mileage on the odometer shows 37078 and it is believed to be correct. Previous owner and story of storage back it up. Other mechanical notes All lights work, electrical in good shape Gauges work however when the fuel tank was replaced, the sending unit worked but is now not working. This car should pass a State of Missouri safety inspection once a couple of the repair items above are taken care of. Car has 60 to 65 psi oil pressure cold, 50 to 55 warm idle as shown in photo. Does not run hot. Does not smoke. Tie rod ends previously replaced. BODY This 73 was originally blue but was repainted black some years back and it is showing its age. There are areas of touch up on the paint, some spider cracks in the fiberglass, and a chip out of the right rear wheel lip. The frame is solid with no rust. There is evidence that the car has had some fiberglass repair on the right rear area above the bumper. This was done years ago. Repainted then probably and looks good from 10 feet but up close inspection will show its flaws. The rocker covers are new. It is missing the top trim piece for the windshield trim as well as 3 of the corner pieces. The windshield itself has a wiper mark on the drivers side. The rear view mirror is detached from the windshield and sitting in the seat. The area where it goes you will find a chip out of the inside and a hair crack. Reattachment of the mirror to the windshield will cover all of this from the inside. INTERIOR Original, I believe. Showing some signs of age, 40 years. Both seats have a seam split in the side bolster area but center panels are good. Console lid is loose. No radio. In summary, here is a running, driving, big valve, 1973 Lotus Europa Twin Cam Special listed with no reserve. If you have read the description above and have looked at my feedback, I think you can trust that the car you would be getting is as it is described here in this listing. It is a car that with minimal effort you can drive this summer and restore it as you go. I have told you all I think I know about the car but if you feel the need to ask more questions, call between 8 AM and 8 PM central time @ 816-520-2433, Joe TERMS OF AUCTION Payment: A deposit is required via Paypal in the amount of $500 within 48 hours of the end of the auction. Payment is required in full within 14 days via cash in person, bank wire transfer, or cashiers check (must be approved by my bank prior to release of the car and they will hold it for a minimum of 7 days so be prepared if this is how you want to pay for it as I will not release the car until it clears. PLEASE, if you cannot live with these payment terms, do not bid. Pickup of the car: You are expected to pickup the car no later than April 28th. If you cannot do so and make no agreed upon arrangements prior to the auction end for the car to be here an extended period of time, you will be charged $20 per day storage beginning on April 29th until the car is picked up. Please don't make me do this, I would prefer you just come and get it. I am located roughly 22 miles NE of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, right off of I-35. On Mar-19-13 at 10:45:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention a couple of things. The frame on this car is good with no visible damage or rust. This is a 4 speed car.
