Vehicle Detail
I am not sure why the eBay robot will not allow my VIN# as a 1988 vehicle, but let me be clear now, this Defender 110 is a 1988, not a 1980 model year. Also, I have taken many pictures of everything on the truck and I can mail them to anyone interested, and will also post them on my online picture gallery/ weblog at: laughsandlashings.blogspot dot com/ Hello there, Land Rover enthusiasts/ aspiring owners: If you have been following my auctions at all, you may have noticed that my trucks usually do not make it to the end of the auction. Very often, I get local cash offers too good to pass up, and I do reserve the right to end my auctions at any time, so if you are serious about buying this Defender, I suggest you use buy it now or bid early, or message me with any questions about purchasing that you may have. I do have some rules that I require that you follow if you want to bid on my truck, and they are these: Before I describe this 110, please let me ask that you read the ENTIRE ad before asking questions, or bidding. I have some requirements for bidders, and by bidding on this vehicle it is understood that you agree to ALL the purchase terms described in this ad. Most important to me are the following terms: A) IF you have zero, or negative feedback as a buyer, please message me with contact information BEFORE bidding or I will have to erase your bid and block you from bidding on this Landrover 1. B) If you bid and win, you agree to pay a deposit on this truck as described in the body of this ad at the conclusion of auction, and the balance within 7 days of winning the auction, no exceptions. (unless you contact me first and we agree on another plan) C) By bidding on this vehicle, you agree to all the terms of sale described in this ad, and agree that you have read the entire ad. What I am selling here is a handsome 1988 Land Rover 110 5-door station wagon with 134,000 original miles on the clock. This truck has the 3.5L gasoline aluminum V8 engine running side draft carburetors, but it has also been fitted with an auxiliary LPG system at great expense to the previous owner. There is a large tank occupying a rear seat area that holds the LPG (like propane or natural gas, which is available at all gas stations in the UK at less than half the cost of petrol or diesel, so many cars are converted this way) tank, and an electric switch on the dash swaps fuel type on the fly- it is very cool and works well. The truck looks great ... from a few feet away. The red paint is in fact very shiny, and the interior of the truck looks like new. I should mention here that the truck passed its MOT test in the UK four months ago, meaning it was found to be solid and safe, and all systems were working as they should - brakes, steering, lights, horn, all work as they should. The truck starts right up and runs great. The body has many small nicks and scratches that have been touched up in an amateurish manner, but the body does look great with those original county/110 decals. Lights all work, blinkers all work, heater works, steering feels great, all glass is good, all doors lock and unlock, door panels and seats look to be new, carpet looks very nice. Frame is very solid and has a galvanized front bumper and the rear cross memeber (and rear bumper) are new as well - Welding looks professional and solid. Lets talk about what is not-so-good now: The body, although looking great (in my opinion, and those of the people who have looked at the truck here in my shop) has some rust in it. There is a decent-sized hold in the front of the bulkhead just above a vent (please see pictures) , and the floors have been professionally repaired - I do not think a bulkhead r4eplacement is in order, and none of the rust is a safety issue, but please be aware of these areas that are rusty and examine the pictures carefully - 1) Bulkhead front, over the vent 2) Front door bottoms are rusting out, an easy/ routine fix. 3) The metal strips that holds the door seal to the body is rusted in some areas. This strip actually is riveted onto the body and appears to be easy to repair as well. 4) The bottom of the very rear cargo door is rusted out. 5) The bottom of the 'B' and 'C' pillars, just where they meet the floors, have enough rust that I was able to poke through with a screwdriver. None of these areas are letting in water that I can tell, and one are 'load bearing' or structural or are safety concerns, and could be repaired while you drive the truck, if that is how you elected to approach this 'project'. I would like to note that the bottoms of the rear passenger doors are perfectly solid, and the majority of the body is aluminum and does not rust. Also not-so-good: 5-speed transmission is whiny and notchy, although does shift fine into all gears and is operating fine, i.e., will not leave you stranded anyplace, just would become annoying on long drives with the whiny bearings, which many of these trucks suffer from until an owner finally replaces the transmission or bearings during a rebuild. Clutch is strong and shifts well. What is great about this truck? The interior looks to be more or less new. Seats look new as do door cards, instruments all work and look great. Lights and glass are all good. Doors open and close well and hinges do not sag. This is a 1988 and just became NHTSA eligible for importation, and has some of the newer features like the external door handles. Enthusiatic poking with my screwdriver into all the frame areas (which are covered in underseal) did not make any progress into metal, and I agree with the UK DVLA assessment that the frame is solid and safe. Heated rear window and rear window wiper work well. Tires look new too! 95% of tread left, if not more, knobby tires look aggressive, in a good way. Engine starts right up and is healthy and strong. Does not overheat. Fuel gauge works well. Truck does look good and smells good and it seems it has the approval of the ladies, as opposed to some of the Defenders out there which are shabby inside or smell like diesel.. Frame/Chassis is straight and appears to be accident-free and solid. Speaking of 'diesel', I also have several 200tdi and 300tdi engine kits available here, which I could either sell to the high bidder, or even do the conversion for you - Please message me for details if this is of interest to you. During the swap I could also put in a newer transmission with no issues. I legally imported this truck and am the sole legal owner. I just filed the paperwork for it this week, and will have a clear Oregon title available here for the new owner as soon as the DMV mails it to me, usually within 21 days. I do guarantee a clear title to the new owner, transferable to all 50 states. I feel confident you could drive this home anywhere, but that being said it is a 25 year old truck that I have driven only about 10 miles now, so can not guarantee anything. It may be prudent to set up transportation for the truck instead of risking any trouble on your virgin journey. Figure on $1000 -$1200 for transport to get as far away as you can from Portland, OR, and less the closer you get. PAYMENT/ AUCTION RULES: I require a $500 paypal deposit at the conclusion of the auction, and the balance is due here within 7 days, maximum, by cash in person/ check/ other certified funds. I am selling this to pay bills I have right now ( I have a container arriving in a couple weeks with a Land Rover Forward Control 101 and another diesel Defender 110 and I need to pay for the container charges soon ). If you need more time to pay or collect, you must make arrangements with me BEFORE BIDDING. Please be familiar with buying a car online and have your finances in order/ permission/ mind made up you want the truck before bidding. If you have been looking for one of these Defenders for a while and recognize a nice, solid deal and can pay for it within 7 days (or at least half of it within 7 days and make arrangements with me beforehand), please do bid, or Buy it Now or call with any questions- I guarantee to keep up my end of the bargain here, your end is making sure you can pay on time, and be a reasonable buyer. The truck can stay here in Portland, locked up and safe for up to 30 days at my shop, if you need more time to collect or pay let me know. If you need help scheduling transportation , let me know and I can help. I can also collect you from the airport/ train station/ etc. Please email with any questions, and as I mentioned before, the truck is for sale locally as well, and I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION AT ANY TIME. Please call or email or BID if you are serious about buying, if you sit back and wait to bid, the truck may disappear before your eyes.... 503-505-7113
