NO RESERVE! 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet. AMAZING BARN FIND! SEE IT RUN. NO RESERVE! 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet – BARN FIND. SEE VIDEO. NO RESERVE AUCTION. CAR WILL SELL TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER. Note: Please take 7 minutes to watch the video below, which will give you many details about the history and discovery of this amazing car. To summarize: This is an original 1958 356A Cabriolet. Body #150872. As ordered from the factory, it came with only a steel hardtop (no folding cabriolet top.) The original color was silver metallic. It was purchased in 1971 from the original owner by a Porsche aficionado in Washington state. He and his wife used the car sparingly over the next 42 years, mostly for Porsche club events and pleasure trips. On one excursion the engine threw a fan belt and overheated. The original engine was removed and replaced with one from a 1972 Cabriolet. The original 1958 engine block and heads were kept with hopes of one day rebuilding the original engine and returning it to the car. The car was fitted with a 12 volt battery for easier starting and brighter headlights, along with a step-down voltage reducer that allowed the original 6 volt gauges to be retained. The car was sent to a body shop that removed the entire worn original floor pan. It was replaced with a correct pan for this model. The car was then painted in light blue color and returned to the owner. He drove it over the next 30 years. It was always parked in his dry barn when not in use. The car was last driven in the summer of 2012. After 42 years of enjoyment, the owner decided, because of his advancing age, that the car be made available to a new owner who will appreciate the significance of this 356A Cabriolet and preserve it for the next generation. After being recently removed from the barn, all systems were checked, a battery was placed in the car, along with some gasoline, and it started and runs like a champ! (See video.) While it runs, shifts, drives and stops, it has not been driven extensively and should be serviced completely by a Porsche specialist before extended driving. The car is RUST FREE. Body is excellent with no signs of accidents or abuse. Bottoms of the doors, battery box, engine compartment floor and other vulnerable areas are completely solid. Car is complete with the original steel hardtop, tonneau cover and an unrestored Cabriolet soft top (which was acquired by the previous owner but never installed.) Again note, this car did not originally come from the factory with a soft top. We will leave it up to the new owner whether it should be installed. The sale also includes the original rebuildable engine block and heads. This is a solid, amazingly preserved 1958 356A Cabriolet with a known history. It can be mechanically freshened and enjoyed as is, providing the new owner with an incredible preservation story; or it is a perfect candidate for a high point, concours quality restoration. Either way, you’ll be assured of a rare and desirable Porsche. We have decided to let the bidders decide the value of this car. It is being offered for sale here with NO RESERVE. On Feb-28-13 at 14:24:21 PST, seller added the following information: Thank You! For all of the calls and e-mails about this amazing car. Just a note of clarification: The previous owner stated in the video that he had replaced the original engine with one from a "1972 Cabriolet". We noted this in the written listing, above. Actually, we found that the engine now in the car is from a 1962 Cabriolet. (1600 cc. Flat 4) Also, it was rebuilt less than 1,000 miles ago. As mentioned, the rebuildable original 1958 engine block and heads will be included with the sale. Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK!
