Vehicle Detail
1953 MG-TD Big fun in a small package Selling at No Reserve Here up for bids is this sharp little MG, a 1953 TD. 1953 was the last year for TD production and this particular car was one of the last built. After July '51 the TD's received a newly designed XPAG motor, and these cars came to be known as TD2's. This car's serial number of 29662 shows that it was 253rd away from being the last on the line at Abingdon. The car is a good solid runner that was restored some years ago and still presents very well. It's mechanically sorted and ready for the road, a great example of a motoring icon - The Classic British Sports Car. Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. Finished in Woodland Green, the paint is of good quality. There's a few small chips if you put your nose right up to it but overall the car looks pretty sharp. The finish is glass smooth with no orange peel, overspray or other imperfections. The body on this MG is super solid with no rust issues. The folding windshield is in good condition, its frame surround is original and shows some tarnishing in areas. Tires are new Nexen's with less than 10 miles on them. All of the chrome on the car is in good driver quality condition. Bumpers are both straight. The fog lights are new and have not been wired in yet. BRG suits the car well. The soft-top has been replaced, the side curtains are original. They show their age but are still functional after 60 years. The tonneau cover fits well and zips closed to form a weathertight seal The spartan interior is clean and functional, the leather seats have taken on a well earned patina. Everything works correctly on the dash - lights, signals, horn, wipers, etc. All gauges are functional. Shown below is an accessory luggage rack that comes with the car. Under the hood this MG is clean and tidy with updated wiring. The motor is matching numbers. Recent work includes a new radiator, water pump, and exhaust. The car starts readily and runs very well. It rides down the road with a light and nimble feel, the suspension and steering are tight and responsive. The car shifts well with good synchros and positive engagement. Rear end is quiet. The car brakes well, tracks straight and runs cool. When you are behind the wheel of this MG you're brought back to what it means to be driving an automobile. No talking on the cell phone, no tuning in the radio - instead you are listening to the motor, timing your shifts, becoming one with the car. Solid and undamaged undercarriage with good wood and solid sheet metal. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
