Vehicle Detail
1949 Ford F-1 Solid, original example Fun, practical classic No Reserve auction Here up for bids is this neat old truck, a 1949 Ford F-1. This truck was restored about 10 years ago and has now developed a nice kind of lived-in patina. Mechanically the truck is terrific, cosmetically it's not so perfect that you'd be afraid to really get out there and use it. This is the type of truck that you can take to a car show on Saturday morning and then hit the garden center later that day. The previous owner was a dedicated car guy and went through the truck to insure that his wife would feel comfortable using it on a regular basis. It has a 3 speed transmission mated to the stock 215 OHV Six that runs great and always starts at the first push of the button. This truck is super solid top to bottom, I've included numerous pictures of the undercarriage further down the page that show just how original and untouched this truck is. Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. The paint is driver quality, it looks good from 10 feet but is not show quality. Expect to find some imperfections here and there, such as touched in chips and prep flaws, that type of thing. There are no areas with dents or damage, it's just not $10,000 paint, which is probably just as well for what it is. Most everyone who sees this truck loves it, it definitely attracts a lot of attention wherever it goes. Body panels are all very straight and for a truck it has pretty good panel fit. Both bumpers are straight with no dents. All lights work, the electrical system has been upgraded to 12V and turn signals have been wired to the existing lights. Running boards, fender bottoms and cab corners are all super solid with no rust. The truck's brightwork is all in very nice shape. All of the glass is in good shape and every piece has a new rubber gasket, including the wing windows. There's a small area of corrosion at the left bottom corner of the windshield, this is the worst spot on the truck. Tires are Ford scripted wide whites with good tread. This truck still has its original metal bed, most of these rusted away years ago and were replaced with wood slats. This bed is still looking pretty good after 64 years. The interior has the same feel as the exterior - nice, but not so perfect that you have to worry about muddy boots. The seat has taken on a comfortable patina. Steering wheel is in good shape with no splits. Heater and fan work, the heater core has recently been replaced. Pretty simple setup here, just the basics. The 215 Six fires to life instantly and runs out really well. The truck has been converted to 12V and features a Pertronix ignition. All new brakes and hoses were recently installed. The drivetrain was rebuilt when the truck was restored, I don't think it's had very many miles put on it since. Part of this truck's beauty lies in the fidelity of its undercarriage. Never hit, never rusted, this is about as good as they get. Recent work has been done to the rear end, brakes and exhaust. These photos show the rear fenderwells and running boards, both solid. Front fenders, looking toward the rear and the front, both untouched original steel. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
