This car is in excellent condition for its' age in my opinion. I purchased it because the body is in great shape, the chrome looks beautiful, the interior is clean, it drives well and there is very minor rust to speak of. I was planning on restoring this to show room condition but a new baby on the way has changed this plan. My wife says sell. Here is the restoration I have done to it in the last several months: -Rebuilt transmission by local classic car transmission expert: http://www.chandlerstransmission.com/ $1,650.00 ( Comes with 2 year warranty ) - Perfect - Replaced power steering pump with good condition used pump - Still makes a little noise but will go away once bubbles in fluid come out. - Replaced fuel pump with good condition used pump - works great. - Replaced Alternator and battery with brand new parts - works great - Replaced Idle valve with good condition used idle - works great - Replaced headlights and brake lights - work great The brakes and emergency brake were also adjusted and work great. The car does not leak any fluids. The tires are all in very good condition. When I had them rotated the guy at the tire store said he was amazed that there was hardly any rust under the car that he could see. The seats and headliner have no rips or tears and look good! It appears that at one point the middle of the leather seats were replaced with a high quality fabric to give it a two tone look. This may also be original. I am not sure. The carpet is complete and still in good condition! I think it is original. I took out the carpet in the back seat so you can see in the picture that the metal floor is painted blue and has no sign of rust there. I was told that many of these cars have rust under the carpet in that area. The AC, heater, defroster and intrior air controls do not work but can be fixed. The windshield wipers work but the blades should be replaced as they are old. The left blinker works perfect but the right blinker does not blink on its' own. You must lift the lever up and down to make the light blink. The horn does not work. The dashboard is in very good condition but does have a crack in as shown in the picture. When you shift gears the indicator in the display P R N D ... does not change. That cable needs to be replaced. My mechanic said it was a simple replacement. The driver's window goes up and down with a little help but the others do not work and will need to be fixed. They are either off their track or not getting power. All the door locks work fine manually but the vacume system doesn't seem to pop them all up and down at the same time. There are a couple small rust bubbles under the paint near the 280SEL emblem on the truck. There is also pea size spot of rust above the Mercedes emblem on the trunk. There is an area of oxidation on the driver's side back panel near the trunk and a 1 x 2 inch patch of paint missin on the hood due to power steering fluid being spilled on it. There is an old car smell to it but then again, it is 40 years old! This car drives smooth and sounds good. The trick is that you must let it warm up for a good 20 minutes. It does not have fast excelleration off the line, but will fly from 45 MPH to 65MPH like a sports car! I have driven it 70MPH and felt safe. Please ask questions, come visit for a test drive, send out a 3rd party inspector. I have described this car as best as I could. Please remember that this is a 40 year old classic car so it is not perfect and will need work. Bidding will start at $3,300.00 and sell to the highest bidder! No reserve.
