Vehicle Detail
I have owned this Pacifica since new. It was trouble free for 140,000 miles. We “commuted” from NY to FL on a regular basis. All maintenance was done on schedule. The only unexpected repair needed was a new starter. Of course tires, brakes, filters were done when needed. The rear load leveling shocks ($300 EACH) and rear tires have less than 500 miles on them! The only accident is the one that resulted in me selling it. I gave the car to my son to help him with his growing family (he just had twins on 12/12/12). My son was travelling with his family from New York to Fort Stewart GA to prepare for deployment. The car was parked at a gas station in Virginia, his wife was standing facing the rear seat to change one the newborns when a car driven by someone who reported that they had a seizure drove up the curb and hit the car, sending my daughter-in-law and the baby flying to the pavement. Luckily she was not seriously injured, and the baby was safe because she held him football style. Unfortunately, Virginia does not require drivers to have car insurance, and the Pacifica was hit by an uninsured car driven by a person with a suspended license. No air bags went off, nothing even leaked. The leaks on the pavement are from the other car. The Pacifica started and was moveable, but definitely will need a lot of work if you want to make it a driver. The engine runs fine, but will need a water pump pulley because it was hit by the radiator frame that was knocked loose. The radiator and condenser were bent, the fender, hood, back and front bumper assemblies need repair/replacement, as well as work to make sure everything is lined up right. The passenger rear door was knocked out of alignment when it hit my daughter-in-law (all 95 lbs of her). The interior is in really good shape, no wear or tear to the seats, all electric controls work fine (multi position memory seats and mirrors, window controls etc.) All glass is crack and ding free. Since it was parked, no air bags went off – it does have the optional side curtain air bags too. All instruments and sound system work fine. We do not smoke, nor did we allow passengers to smoke. Essentially the only thing that is “bad” about the car is the damage due to the accident. We loved the car, but had to replace it right away, and now have to make up for the money spent to transport the car back to NY. Just a quick note: Beware of tow companies on I-95! I was charged $1,300 to have it towed from the 7 eleven parking lot to the tow company’s lot 5 miles away. They held it ransom for a week and even refused to let us take out even our baby seats until we paid up. Luckily I found an honest transporter that only charged $250 to move it from Fredricksburg to New York. At least someone recognized the plight of an active duty serviceman. The car is stored indoors in Staten Island and available for inspection, transportation is the buyer’s responsibility. Extended storage would have to be worked out with the shop owner.
