Up for auction is this 1983 Jaguar XJ-S. The good:Runs and lot drives; could use a tune up, but runs strong when the engine's warm.Lots of new front brake and suspension components, with less than 100 miles on them.Newer transmission seals and lower half engine seals.Newer style 16CU computer for engine management.Priced below scrap value. The engine alone is over 500lbs of aluminum. The bad:Everything else... This car is not roadworthy. Years of british rust combined with a final burnout last year separated the rear subframe from the frame. Gravity and wheelwells hold the differential in place. This event also ripped most of the exhaust off, so now it sounds like a WWII plane when it's running. This car would be a good parts donor for someone who wanted a working v12 with trans, or jaguar front suspension, or the irs rear. I did drive it home for 3 miles down dirt roads in this condition, but you shouldn't; it was scary to be driving sideways. Feel free to ask any questions, or to make an appointment to view the car.
