Vehicle Detail
1939 WRAITH WITH THRUPP & MABERLY COACHWORK George Thrupp and George Maberly joined forces in 1858 and with the advent of the motor car, Thrupp & Maberly blended their traditional skills with that of the motor car and produced some of the earliest motor car bodies built in England. In 1924 the company moved from London to Cricklewood and concentrated on coach building for Rolls-Royce, then the next year they became part of the Rootes Group where during World War II they made bodies for Humber staff cars including Field Marshall Montgomery's "Old Faithful". There were only 492 Wraiths produced by Rolls-Royce and less than 100 cars in the USA today. Thrupp & Maberly built 42 bodies on Wraith chassis and the Wraith engine is the quietest of all the Rolls-Royces engines. This Wraith just had new Rolls-Royce leather and carpeting installed along with a fresh finish on the interior wood. The car is super quiet and starts right up on the first touch of the starter button. This is a car that you can drive, the tires are perfect, new battery, brakes including hand brake work perfect, no smoke from the tailpipe (stainless steel exhaust system) and has all the correct Rolls-Royce engine and chassis parts. It has a heater installed under the front dash for cold weather driving and a sunroof for summers. The windshield (note the hand crank on the upper dash) and sunroof opens and closes with ease, as do all four doors. The front and rear vent windows have overlapping glass with makes for a very clean and high vision look (so that you can be seen in your Rolls-Royce) along with a trunk that has room for all kinds of stuff. Inside the trunk lid are cut-outs for small tools (missing) and a second door (dust boot) so that you could mount a travel trunk on the back while still being able to use the space in the boot (trunk). I have put new trumpets on the horns and added a proper Pre-War Notek center spot light, replaced the wing lights with the correct Ace CornerCroft lights and new wing mirrors. This is a great car to own.
