Vehicle Detail

Here we have a Porsche Speedster replica. I am not the owner, all the info i convey is from the owner or some of the things I have learned on my own. All info is believed to be accurate. I know very little about Porsche and VW. There is a Porsche restoration shop 1 mile from my location. There is also a shop about 15 miles from me who I'm told builds replicas. If you have any doubts or issues with this auction, I urge you to have a third party inspect the vehicle. It is for your protection and my feedback score. I want all buyers to be completely satisfied with no surprises upon delivery. The owner states that he has all of the paperwork for the car. I am told it is a clear title. I should have this in hand within a few days. If it turns out that there is something wrong about the paperwork, I will end the auction and re list once it is secured. I however have no reason to believe there is any issues. The mileage reads 2484 on the odometer and I believe that to be accurate since the build. I have no idea what the VW had on it All that said I will tell you what I know to this point. The car has been sitting since about 2008. The gas was nasty when i got it here. I drained about 5 gallons out and put in fresh Gas. The battery was dead so I did put one in there. it fired but not well. I replaced the spark plugs. i had spark but would not run. I began squirting fuel in the carb and it would run. I traced it to no fuel. I checked the mechanical fuel pump and it is not pumping. I put a temporary in line electric pump on it and it will now start and run. It runs smooth as long as you keep the choke closed up, and it does not like to accelerate but it will if you finesse the choke and throttle. The engine sounds great with a throaty tone to it. The electric pump is not permanently wired so it can be easily removed. I am not sure of this carb set up. All the ones I see have two carbs, one on each side. As you can see this has a 2 barrel carb up top. It works just like a mechanical 4 barrel, the primary opens and at a certain point the secondary opens. The engine numbers co-incide with the info the owner gave me that it was a 71 beetle donor car The engine code located below the generator mount is AE 448616 I did not pull any drums to look at brakes but I did move it a bit in the driveway and it seems to stop fine and the emergency brake does work. The clutch feels fine as well as the gears, however i did not make any shift changes due to the rpm issue. It was not charging when it came here. I replaced the voltage regulator and it showed it charging at about 13 volts. This is a generator not a alternator. I am not sure where it should charge, the gauges with the exception of the fuel gauge seem to work fine. The lights all work. This was not built by a shop as far as I know. It was a personal build. The floor pan and all of the undercarriage look good. I cannot find any issues. Again, I am not an expert on this car. I would give the paint a 8.5 out of 10. There are a couple blemishes which may buff out but all in all it is a very nice finish. The chrome is very good on the car itself. The wheels had surface rust on them. I cleaned them with chrome polish, but close up and personal you can see the fine speckles in the chrome. The exhaust tips are the same. The interior is good but not perfect.again I would say 8 out of 10. The carpet on the drivers side needs glued down. The pedals need the rubber pads for them. The doors open and close solid as well as the front and rear deck lids. Both deck lids have interior cables to release them. The top looks good and went up fairly easy considering it has been down for so long. I do not know if there are any other parts such as a boot or side curtains. I will try to find that out. As a whole, the major part of this car is very good shape. It looks to me like the workmanship was done well. There are some little details which I would do if it were mine. The seals around the 2 deck lids and possibly the doors should be replaced for one. The gas tank is not bolted in. It had straps holding it in which just looked hokey so I removed them. The battery is loose now, but before it leaves I will put a marine type battery box in it to be sure it stays secure. I know it will need a mechanical fuel pump and the carb rebuilt. I will leave the electric one in there for the buyer so it can be started. It will need to be hauled not driven. If you buy this car and have to get it transported, keep that in mind. It may need manually loaded, either winched or pushed. Myself and my buddy pushed it up on my trailer. I does not weigh much at all. Although I am not a foreign car type person, this thing is neat. The reserve on the car is well less than I believe it to be worth so bid with confidence. Judging by what I see of comparibles, you can buy this car and have plenty of room to make your own changes and still come out way ahead. the owner is just motivated to sell the car since he does not have the time to enjoy it anymore. I do reserve the right to remove the auction at any time for any reason. On Dec-10-12 at 11:46:36 PST, seller added the following information: I now have seen all the paperwork for the vehicle. It has a clear PA title. The body is from classic coachwork in FL. The spec sheet is here with everything that come with the kit. I did not look long enough to know if they did any of the work or not.On Dec-11-12 at 19:26:04 PST, seller added the following information: Someone wrote that the vin # is bogus The one listed above is not the vin #. I had to put something in there to get the auction going and did not have the actual vin at the time. Please be assured that the PA title has the correct VIN number on it and it is a clear title. I could not change it once the auction started.
