Vehicle Detail
This Amphicar is for the hobbyist or collector who can spend resources to make it a great daily driver/swimmer or even a show car. The vehicle was purchased in 1999 and has been maintained by the owner with some professional help. Most of the inside was covered with Gluvit epoxy sealer to prevent rust. It worked because the vehicle has been in salt water and has minimal rust. Amphicars are known to rust in a variety of places even in fresh water, but most of these spots have been repaired on both sides including rear quarter panels, jack points, door skins, and top of the front wheel wells. The gas tank had outside rust repaired. The engine has recently been rebuilt and runs nicely. Car runs straight without vibration at highway speeds. The rear transmission seal needs to be replaced (or reseated) as it is leaking. The part itself is less than $25, but the transmission or engine has to be removed to get at it. Tires are about 3 years old with less than 1,000 miles on them. Battery is about a year old. The upholstery is servicable. The door panels were never installed and will be supplied with the vehicle. The top and boot cover will need to be replaced. There are some electrical issues that will need to be fixed because only the turn signals work. The electrical issue is recent so I have not had time to troubleshoot it. Parking light sockets, front and rear, were replaced on both sides within the past year. The car swims well with the few leaks more than handled by the bilge pump. AS SEEN ON TV: The car was featured on Disney's TRYathlon show, which premiered in August, and featured splash-ins and transitions from the water to the beach and back. I am assuming anyone interested in this vehicle already knows about Amphicars and how much fun they can be. If you do need more information then check out www.amphicar.com and www.amphicar770.com. There are people who can be contacted through these sites who can guide you through just about anything Amphicar. If you buy the car now, you will have time to make the annual swim-in in Celina, OH where about 50 Amphicars get together for a weekend of amphibious fun. Terms of the sale are $2,000 non-refundable deposit within 72 hours of the end of the auction with the rest due within 14 days of the sale. Money should be by cashier's check, certified check, or wire transfer to my bank. Escrow services are OK if negotiated in advance of the sale. I highly recommend that you or someone you trust inspect the vehicle. There is no warranty and is being sold AS IS, WHERE IS. The buyer needs to arrange shipping within 4 weeks of the sale. I will be happy to coordinate the transfer. This vehicle was designed for maximum enjoyment. Not only for your enjoyment, but for the countless of people who receive rides. So if you like phrases like "nice car!", "does it really go in the water?", and "will you take me for a ride?" this is the vehicle for you. It may not be the best car or the best boat, but when it comes to fun, there is little to beat it. Please be aware of this because I cannot delete the picture. I added another rear view picture of the correct vehicle although it is not as good at showing that the propellers are intact.]
