Vehicle Detail
this car is being sold as is. it sat for years in the sun. it was an old mans car. motor and tranny good. This is basically a good shell , motor and trans. it did start but ran super ruff. intake gaskets were done but needs ALL new vaccum hoses. its really better for parts. 2 almost new blizzak tires on rear. paint and interior rough must prick up within 3 days of auction end. CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN. IT HAS NO BATEERY. AS IS revised: this is front a flyer I made before ebay, its pretty much explains it all: 1997 BMW 740I E38 I am a self taught BMW fanatic. I have owned and rebuilt several over the years. I bought this E38 to rebuild but due to hard times I must sell it. It does run and was my daily driver till I bought a newer car. First this car needs lots of work so unless you know how to work on BMW’s this is not the car for you. I have price most parts out. The reason I bought this is because it had low miles for year (85 when bought, 101 now) and it was an old man’s car. They lost the original key so I went to dealer with VIN and had two valet keys made. The car came from Florida and was sun beat. The clearcoat is done. It needs both front and rear bumpers and the kidneys fixed or replaced. No major dents. Complete car needs painted. The car from sitting had a bad vacuum leak around the intake. BMW OEM gaskets are notorious for drying out and getting hard. It also developed a valve gasket leak. I removed valve covers and intake and replaced all the gaskets. Now she idles but high. I tested the throttle position sensor and it’s out of voltage range. I was waiting for it to get warmer out but now I need cash. If you can do the work the motor is solid. Next, The transmission only shifts in manual mode. The transmission is FINE. It is also the desirable beefer GM tranny not the wimpy reversion. Get need it for the 4.4L motor. The car needs two front wheel speed sensors. They are both bad. Since the transmission doesn’t know how fast the car is going it doesn’t know which gear to go it. You have to put the car in manual mode and shift manually. I kind a like this, car is uber fast and solid for its size. I found two sensors on eBay for 80 bucks. I would do all four at the wheels. They are easy to change. The car has two near new Blizzak tires in rear but needs two front tires. The interior is ok. It does have wear. The headliner is sagging. Some speakers are blown. The trunk lid needs shocks. I replaced the front idler arm. I also wanted to do shocks. This was around 250 for all. This is the list and it is as accurate as I know. The car is still fun as hell to drive and if I wasn’t broke I wouldn’t even think of getting rid of it. This car is priced to move. There are tons of parts on eBay and German car websites for CHEAP
