Vehicle Detail

Here’s a perfect winter project! A real 1972 Oldsmobile 442 fastback that could be restored to a classic or rodded out for show or racing. It’s a rare car – you just won’t find one with fewer options. So if you restore as original there won’t be any around like it. Has a 350 with 4 barrel and automatic on the column. Also comes with factory air conditioning and cloth interior. Car did not come originally with a tilt column but I put in one from a donor car to be able to get in and out easier. As you can see it has typical cancer issues. The fenders would actually repair with patch panels or you could go Goodmark and get replacements pretty cheap. The quarters are bad around wheel opening but again would repair with patch panels. The fastback lines are so good and crisp it would be a shame to replace the quarters. No issues with the original 442 hood. Car can run but has a carburetor and/or vacuum issue and also battery is bad. This was originally a 2 barrel carb but the proper 4 barrel manifold and carburetor were installed and since then has not run right because of vacuum or carb adjustment. Prior to the change it ran great with no smoking and no knocks or noises. You should plan on loading it on a trailer with a winch because I believe it would be difficult to get started particularly if it is cold out. I would like to see it get picked up quickly but I will work with whoever is the successful bidder. Contact me with any questions. Also listing some Cutlass/442 parts including steering column, bumper and convertible top frame. On Nov-28-12 at 19:42:26 PST, seller added the following information: Note to prospective buyers: In 1972 the 442 was not classified as a separate model and instead was an option that was primarily a handling package. So, 1972 "442" models are really Cutlass models with the 442 option. Hope this clarifies questions. Also note as specified above, this car was originally a 2 barrel setup but it currently has a correct manifold and 4 barrel Rochester carb for the year. There are many sources you can check with to verify this information. Contact me with any questions. On Dec-02-12 at 14:54:39 PST, seller added the following information: Looked at the car today to get more pictures and better description of condition. First, I have incorrectly listed the mileage above. The actual odometer reading is 95472. Numerous people have asked about rust. I took pictures of the trunk which is very sound. I can't really get pictures of the frame and the floor pans because it is parked in some grass. Judging from the conditon of the carpet I don't think there is rust through in the pans. I looked underneath as best I could and felt around but couldn't find any area that was rusted thru. I also surveyed the frame and again I don't see any rust thru or issues. It is sold as is but I believe the above to be accurate. I looked at the dashpad and I see no issues with it. It has an aftermarket radio in it but the opening isn't cut. Also, I do have the correct air filter housing and the center to the steering wheel. When I took original pictures those items were in the garage.
