The Mercedes-Benz SL raises the ante for automotive elegance. The design is restrained and sophisticated and simply reeks of high-end European class. If you long for a Mercedes-Benz grand touring coupe and can do without the CL's massive presence then the SL Class offers an attractive combination of comfort and performance. In many ways, the SL is in a class by itself. WHY OWN SL? PERFORMANCE: The SL 500 features Mercedes' 5.0-liter, which develops 302 hp at 5700 rpm and 329 lb.-ft. of torque from 3000 to 4600 rpm. The engine is mated to Mercedes' smooth-shifting 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, which features software to adapt its shift points to suit the driver's style, and also holds lower gears while climbing hills and shifts to a lower gear for engine braking when descending grades. With such sophisticated transmission, there is little need to shift manually, but for those so inclined, there is the TouchShift manual mode for quick manual shifting and easy manual control. The car is smooth, quiet, and unobtrusive, just like a luxury powerplant should be, and its powerful engine gives the car good acceleration and high-speed cruising ability. COMFORT: The car offers generous headroom even for tall drivers. Even better, the passenger cabin's large expanse of glass and an elegant design unique to the SL gives the interior a spacious, airy look. It's no illusion, as most interior dimensions have increased from the previous models, especially in the oft-forgotten (in coupes) rear seat. In front are comfortable, firmly-supportive power-adjustable buckets. Rear access is helped by the “Easy-Entry” system, which folds the front headrest down and moves the front seat forward when a lever on the front seat back is lifted. Power “seatbelt presenters'' at the top of the B-pillar stubs keep the front shoulder straps out of the way until needed by the front occupants. The steering wheel is power-adjustable for both tilt and reach, and has auxiliary audio, phone, and trip info controls. SAFETY: Mercedes-Benz has always been at the forefront of safety research and engineering, and the SL reflects this. It features a strong central structure with front and rear crumple zones, eight airbags, antilock disc brakes with Brake Assist and ESP electronic stability control, and the TeleAid emergency response system. This particular SL500 is in great shape. Just look at the pictures and judge for yourself. The vehicle is mechanically sound and the interior looks nice. The convertible top is in good condition. The engine sounds great, it handles and drives superbly and has no problem developing high speeds. Car runs straight as an arrow and tires do not pull in any direction. The car can be exported, transferred and registered in any state.
