Pontiac was more luxurious than Chevrolet and more performance-oriented than Buick; the Bonneville featured Pontiac's trademark split grille design and helped propel the marque to the number three spot in the 1960s. This example, a 1966 Bonneville in Martinique Bronze, was highly optioned, with power steering, power brakes and factory air. The car has just 73,000 believed to be original miles and comes with its original build sheet, a reproduction window sticker, original sales literature, PHS documentation and lots of records. Cosmetically, this Bonneville is an unusually well-preserved survivor, in good to excellent original condition. The interior is in excellent original condition, with seats showing little, if any, wear. The carpet, door panels, and real wood dash look practically new -- incredible for a 46 year old car. And that awesome retro translucent steering wheel is perfect with no cracks or scratches. The paint shows well from a distance and is almost entirely original, but is showing signs of age upon closer inspection. I like the patina of the original finish -- the car could certainly be enjoyed as is. But the car would also be a good candidate for a respray as the body is very straight with no major accidents or rust. Mechanically, all systems have seen a recent overhaul -- she runs and drives like new. The original 389 cubic inch V8 was rebuilt 5,000 miles ago; the engine was balanced, blueprinted and bored .010 over, and the heads were rebuilt to allow it to run on unleaded gas (premium, of course). The power steeringand power brakes feel great. There's a new power brake booster and master cylinder, and the front drums have new wheel cylinders (the rear cylinders are working just fine). The factory air conditioning system was rebuilt in 2008 and converted to R-134a; it's blowing ice-cold air. And the 400 turbo hydramatic transmission shifts great with no leaks. When the engine was rebuilt, it was upgraded with a new HEI distributor with electronic ignition, alternator with internal voltage regulator, and an Edelbrock 650 cfm carburetor. However, we still have the original distributor, coil, regulator, Carter carburetor and air cleaner, among other original accessory items which will go with the car.
