SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE VINTAGE CAR PARTS AND ACCESSORIES Further cleanout of surplus vintage parts and cars: THIS CAR IS AVAILABLE FOR SALE OFF AUCTION. AND THE AUCTION WILL BE CANCELLED IF IT IS SOLD. No reserve. NO RUST CALIFORNIA BARN FIND!!! NO RUST CALIFORNIA BARN FIND!!! NO RUST CALIFORNIA BARN FIND !!!!!!! (Thought I would jump on the "Barn Find" bandwagon). I found it in my barn - almost forgot I had it. (The first few photos show the car after pulling it out of storage last week - it was put in storage about 35 years ago after spraying the entire car with Cosmoline, a sticky tar/wax like commercial old time preservative that attracts a lot of dust/dirt). The other photos show it as it looks now after it was cleaned off and a few parts that were in the trunk hung back on it. This is an authentic original 1959 Triumph TR3A sports car as shown. It is being sold with a Georgia registration and a bill of sale - it has no title - Georgia being a non title State. I bought it from a gentlemans widow in Georgia about 35 years ago and put it in storage. A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate goes with the car. You will find from the following description that this is a superior original rust free California car and is a perfect, prime candidate for an easy restoration that was started many years ago. The gentleman purchased the car brand new from a California dealer and at that time it was professionally rustproofed before it was delivered to the customer. Not just undercoated - RUSTPROOFED. It has all of the small professionally drilled and plugged access holes all over the car where the rustproofing was sprayed into all of the boxed sections. Everything has been rustproofed - Floors, trunk bottom, engine compartment, inside of the rockers and sills - you name it, there is rustproofing covering everything, everywhere.....I wiped a few small places off with lacquer thinner and there is nothing but bright shiny original metal underneath the layers of rustproofing, paints and primers. It has the original factory red oxide primer, then the original blue factory paint, then a coat of red paint and then what looks to be 2 more coats of primer on top of that. The gentleman died before he could finish it. You will not find a more rust free Triumph anywhere - best I have ever seen. Check the lines and gaps on the car - they are perfect - doors open and close like new. I had no idea how nice this car was until I recently pulled it out of storage and started cleaning it up for sale. This is THE car to restore to brand new, as it would be an easy restoration to complete and would be a pleasure to work on, given the absence of rust. FEATURES: The Motor Industry Trust Heritage Certificate confirms the car as being a 1959 Triumph TR3A. Car chassis number TS42190L - (original serial plate attached to the car confirms this). Engine number TS42648. (original engine has been replaced by a larger 2138CC TR4A engine and matched TR4A all syncro transmission. TR4A engine number is CT66543E and the transmission number is CT66041). Body number 1017378. left hand drive, North American Export, original color is Powder blue with black genuine leather interior. Built January 9 1959. Sent to Cal sales Inc in Los Angeles California on January 30, 1959. Original equipment was disc wheels (now has good wire wheels), tonneau cover, heater and 5:90 X 15 whitewall tyres. ENGINE: Original engine has been removed and replaced with a later 2138CC TR4A engine, serial number CT66543E. The engine starts and runs like a Swiss watch. It is silent with no noises, has excellent oil pressure and does not smoke one bit. The engine runs from an extternal gas source. All of the fuel lines from the fuel tank to the carburetors are excellent but the fuel tank needs repaired or replacing - it isn't rusty but looks like someone put 4 or 5 small holes in it by mistake in the upper part of the tank - looks like they were attaching the trim panel to it with sheet metal screws. (ooops). The SU carburetors look excellent (the entire engine compartment has been protected with Cosmoline). Carbs show no wear and look to be nice and tight with no damage. Nice and original. The original aluminum triangular tags are still in the correct position on the carburetor bowl covers. TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH: The original non syncro transmission has been replaced with a TR4A full syncro transmission to match up to the TR4A 2138CC engine. It shifts solidly and easily through all of the gears including reverse. The car was put on stands, started and run through all of the gears one at a time - Everything worked very well, with power being transmitted to the rear wheels flawlessly. Driveshaft and rear axle assembly are intact and fully functional. The clutch and brake master cylinder looks like they were replaced when the car was under restoration but by now they are no longer functional and will more than likely need rebuilding. The clutch cross shaft, clutch pressure plate, clutch disc, throwout bearing and their overall movement feel excellent with correct motion by hand - just not able to depress the clutch assembly by foot due to no hydraulics. ELECTRICAL: Starter, starter relay, generator, windshield wiper motor are all original and intact. Starter works and starts engine from the original pushbutton switch on the dash. Generator works. Original wiper motor does not rotate when 12 volts put to it but it looks very nice - not cooked. Probably just frozen. Original wiring harness is there but the cloth covering has disintegrated in places- The original dash and gauges are all intact. The speedometer worked, the tachometer worked, the oil pressure gauge worked, the gas gauge tested and worked, the ammeter worked - but I cannot guarantee how long these gauges will continue to work, as they are old and the speedo and tach in particular will probably need cable lubrication maintenance, etc before prolonged use. The water temp gauge obviously will not work, as the capillary tube has been cut. DASH AND INTERIOR: Actually quite nice. All of the original switches/controls seem to be there and seem to be operable. The original seat assemblys are both there and will need restoration. The seat covering has hardened like concrete. The seats are just sitting on the floor and are missing the seat rails that attach to the floor - easily purchased through Moss Motors, etc. The original floorboards, outer and inner sills and all interior sheetmetal are solid as a rock - just like all of the metal on the car. BRAKES: Brakes and all supporting hardware are all there but do not work. Have not spent any time on them. Don't like brake work. Looks like the brake and clutch master cylinder were replaced while the car was under restoration but they of course are no longer functional and will more than likely need rebuilding. EXHAUST: All there , not leaking and solid but of course will need replacing with a proper restoration. COOLING: Original radiator looks excellent with no obvious damage. Still has old anti freeze in it. Filled the cooling system and tested it while running the engine - no leaks anywhere but still will need proper inspection, cleaning, etc. All hoses will of course need replacing. MISSING: Heater, tonneau cover, horns, windshield and lower frame, glovebox, cockpit surround trim pieces, front TR3 badge (photos show a badge but it is not going with the car - I put one on for the photos), battery, rear bumper guards, turn signal lever, hood prop rod. BODY/CHASSIS: To review - Look at the body panels and lines on this car. This is an original California car that was professionally RUSTPROOFED THROUGHOUT from new and as such is in superior condition to any TR3 I have ever seen. I had no idea it was in such good condition until just a few days ago while cleaning it up for sale. This is a perfect car to finish restoration on if you are a rust hater like I am. Any rust free TR3A is quite difficult to find now. The fenders are original and excellent. The doors are original and excellent - no rust or filler even in the bottoms. The hood and trunk lid are original and excellent - no rust. The floors are original and excellent - no rust. The inner and outer sills are original and excellent - no rust. The frame is original and excellent - no rust and no damage - straight as an arrow. The trunk bottom is original and excellent - no rust. The spare tire compartment is original and excellent - no rust. The engine compartment is original and excellent - no rust. Years ago when storing these cars I covered most of the corrosive prone parts and surfaces for rust/corrosion protection with a sticky wax like substance called Cosmoline. The first few photos of the car are just as it was removed from storage a few days ago - with all the brown/black Cosmoline on it. Quite an ugly picture but the Cosmoline is an effective protective coating that comes off fairly easy with mineral spirits. The other photos show the car, also taken just a few days ago, with the cosmoline removed and the car semi cleaned up for better visability and a few parts hung back on it. The gentleman who owned it was in the middle of restoring the car when he passed away. I cannot stress how nice the entire body of this car is. The only filler I can find anywhere is on the nose above the grille and the rear below the trunk lid where there were a couple of small dings only that were slightly filled in - no rust. The very front of the battery tray bottom towards the front has had a small patch of fiberglass years ago. The fenders, hood, trunk lid are not attached securely, easily removed - of course everything needs disassembly for a proper preparation for stripping and repainting/restoring. MISCELLANEOUS: Tires/wheels: Tires are the matched set of 300 year old factory 5:60 X 15 BF Goodrich whitewalls. I suspect these to be the original first set of tires. They are good for holding air for loading on to a trailer. The wire wheels look to be in excellent condition. The spare tire is there and the spare wheel is in excellent condition. The original factory side curtains and mounting plates are intact and in excellent condition but of course the side curtains will need recovering. Original steering wheel needs a thick leather wheel wrap (joke). PAPERWORK: Sold with a Georgia registration and bill of sale. There is no title - Georgia being a non title State. SHIPPING: You can pick the car up at my home within 30 days or I can arrange transport for you or assist you in arranging transport. I have sold and shipped cars all over the globe. A $500 DEPOSIT VIA PAYPAL IS REQUIRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE AUCTION CLOSES. THE BALANCE IS DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS VIA PRIORITY MAIL WITH A BANK CASHIERS CHECK OR BY WIRE TRANSFER. NO PAYPAL. As always, it is difficult to describe something as complicated as a vehicle - so I would highly suggest you look at it in person or have a 3rd party do it for you. I can accomodate anyone to show them the car. I have purchased and sold roughly 20 autos through ebay over the past 15 years and also over the telephone and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers but I do my homework and suggest you do the same. I describe things as honestly as humanly possible. NO PAYPAL. I combine shipping and charge actual postage cost only. THE POSTAGE LISTED IN THE AUCTION IS ONLY A GUESS AND MAY NOT BE CORRECT. YOU WILL BE SENT AN INVOICE WITH THE CORRECT POSTAGE AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS AFTER I PACK AND WEIGH YOUR PURCHASE. If you pay for the auction before I send the correct invoice it may delay shipping. I usually send the invoice out the morning after the auction ends. At times there may be a small handling/packing charge if it is a difficult item. (large, heavy, etc). I ship immediately following receipt of payment. Everything is described in detail to the best of my ability with good photos and it is the responsibility of the bidder to determine reasonable values commensurate with condition. After selling some of the highest quality and hardest to find car parts on ebay for over 15 years I have retired and am winding down and selling off the last of my vintage parts. Most of them have been in the garage for 50 years or more and their "condition", even though the part might be new old stock does not necessarily mean that it looks like it was made yesterday. Keep in mind that there may be some (and may not) minor flaws (surface rust, nicks, etc) simply from age and many years of storage.
