charvetmagic store 1950 Studebaker Commander Land Cruiser RESTORED. Nice! SEE IT RUN. 1950 Studebaker Commander Land CruiserLong before Toyota adopted the moniker "Land Cruiser", Studebaker introduced the name on their deluxe long-wheelbase sedan. The most expensive model in the Studebaker lineup (next to their convertible), they were popular by Studebaker standards, with over 24,000 made in 1950. But that number pales to the millions of cars being turned out by Ford and Chevrolet during the same time. Thus, over the past 62 years, the Studebaker Land Cruiser has become increasingly appealing to collectors, particularly because of the trend-setting Raymond Loewy "bullet nose" styling. This particular Land Cruiser has had one owner since 1984 who over the past several years undertook a full restoration including paint, chrome, interior, wiring and mechanicals. The body is straight, solid and appears rust-free throughout. The black paint is deep and glossy (sorry about the raindrops in the photos, but this is Oregon in November!) Chrome is nice with many parts replated, including the iconic bullet nose. The interior was reupholstered in period fabric and style. New headliner and door panels. Extra fabric is also included in the trunk (along with the finished front door armrests and other small parts.) The only thing remaining to be done is the carpeting and trunk liner. Steering wheel is original. Bias-ply wide whitewall tires. Mechanically, the car runs great. Please see video, below. The 245 cubic inch, 102 horsepower Flathead Six starts easily and has no issues. 3-speed manual transmission. Car was completely rewired throughout. Engine compartment is clean and tidy and will show well with only minor detailing. All gauges work. Odometer shows 20,575 miles, which may be correct although it cannot be confirmed. See photos. With the recent passing of the owner, the family is offering the car for sale. A reasonable reserve price has been placed on it, well below the cost of the vehicle and restoration today.
