Vehicle Detail

This limited production 1964 MGB has been 12 years in the rebuilding process. Now it's time to say good bye so someone else can enjoy driving the car and completing work. If you know MGs, you'll notice this car has pop-out door handles which makes it somewhat rare. The wide white-sidewall tires really set off the car; and the real wire spoke wheels with knock-off hubs add some flash to a super little car. The top is black vinyl to match the seat upholstery. Seats and carpet are black. Seats have white pinstriping. The frame for the top is a 2-piece fold-out type. The top needs to be fitted and the grommets placed in the fabric. The rebuilding is about 90% - 95% completed. Mechanically the car is in good condition. The paint and body needs work although not visible in the photos. The original rear boot lid was run-over and destroyed by a mechanic. The replacement does not fit correctly, and has too much bondo repair. Price is discounted for new lid and total repaint job. I have numerous pieces of equipment which have not been installed but which are included with a purchase, such as wipers, top and weatherstripping. Known "issues": over-heating, non-working odometer, and non-working horn and fuel gage. This is a perfect "project car" for a British car enthusiast who wants a good car to rebuild or restore. Send questions; and then come test drive it. Submitted Questions and Comments: Why does the car overheat? Two reasons........ First, of all, most MG's overheat, so it's important to keep them full of coolant. Second (and most important reason for overheating) is because sitting at a signal light for 4 or 5 minutes in the summer when the outside temperatures are 105 F. tends to make lots of cars overheat. Likewise, going 10 mph on a freeway has the same affect. It's nothing mechanically wrong with the car per se. It's just that the car was not designed and made for those conditions. What about the paint and body work? Over the past 12 years or so several people and companies were involved in the rebuilding and restoration of the car. Unfortunately some of the people literally disappeared in the middle of the night, and others were just bad at their chosen field of work. To have the car completed properly, it's recommended to remove any bondo used on the car, replace the boot lid, then refinish the car with good primer and paint. A proper re-finishing of the whole car could cost as much as $5,000. Antique car auctions have seen these cars sell for $18,000 to $22,000 in good economic times. There is no reason to believe this car if properly completed and fully "restored" could not sell for that in better times. This is a sought-after car model.
