Vehicle Detail

This car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early BUT I will not end the auction if and when the reserve is met and I will NOT have my buddies bid up the car. I will try to be as detailed and honest as possible in the description of this car but PLEASE ask any questions you have or are in doubt about BEFORE placing a bid. Personal inspections here are welcomed and encouraged. This is a 61,000 original mile car with all numbers matching, by all numbers matching I mean the vin or partial vin is correct and matches on the dash tag, fender tag, build sheet, engine, transmission, door sticker, and radiator support, have not cut the original trunk seal to look for the number but I am sure it matches. It is NUMBERS MATCHING! PERIOD! It is all original paint and interior. I am the second registered owner of this car. I have one close to perfect readable build sheet, maybe others in the car, I have not had the interior apart. I do not have the window sticker but I do have the mentioned original build sheet, original dealership bill of sale, owners manual, new car order form, original temporary registration issued by the dealership, warranty card, Chrysler Plymouth owners club membership card in original owners name, the visor sleeve that explains reverse lockout system (works well), and the fender tag is intact. Looks like this car was one that was built early in production and sold close to the next production year. This car does not have a reproduction fender tag or reproduction door sticker, they are factory original to this car.It may have a few rust and dent issues but again, all original paint. This car did not have hood treatment or dust trail stripe. It has Power steering and manual brakes. It is a factory full wheel cover car with the original black steel wheels with the original factory grease pencil markings on them also.No tips. Real "grocery getter" appearance true to the spirit of the Road Runner model. Has not survived as well as some I have seen at the Carlisle survivor building but a survivor none the less. The things that I know have been changed on this car are 1.)The radiator hoses and heater hoses and clamps 2.)Coil 3.)Temp gauge added back in the day 4.)FM converter added back in the day (works) 5.) Exhaust (vintage walker w/ crunch mufflers installed by me) 6.)Tires (late 80s radials and the car is still riding on them) 7.)Front bumper(used original gaurds on the new bumper)8.)I removed deteriorated hood insulation pad This car has some rust and dents as can be seen in the pics. I wire wheeled the center of the trunk and ended up with one quarter sized hole and a couple nail head sized holes, I brushed it with Chassis saver to preserve it from getting any worse. The interior has a split and couple small rips in the driver seat, a hole or two worn in the carpet on the driver side, and material is loose on the interior sail panel pieces, driver armrest pad is split, the interior door handles have pitting. Other wise the interior is nice and every piece original to the car from the factory. no cracks in the dash pad, seat belts are all nice, the usual crack on the back of the original 4spd console. The top plates on the 4spd console are definitely the nicest used ones I have ever seen, not pitted up like the originals usually are. The 4spd boot is not there and I see no evidence that there ever was one, no thread marks on the mounting pegs and no wear mark on the shifter. Pistol grip chrome is very nice original also. Carpet scuff plates are in super condition, the nicest used ones I have seen. Original AM radio is intact and works perfect (along with the FM converter). Car came with no tach or clock, original steering wheel is as good as they get used, no cracks or damage, mint center pad, no pitting on horn ring, nice bird center, headliner is perfect except for sail panels mentioned. All interior lights work except ignition time delay. Rear package tray is perfect. Dashpad is perfect. Plastic dash pieces have a few nics and some fading of color but still pretty decent. Hood mounted turn signals need some attention, right side works intermittently, left side does not, they are not corroded at all, I may or may not get to them this week. The front bumper is a new re-chromed factory bumper w/ original guards, The glass appears to be all original including the windshield and in exceptional condition, no scratching, pitting, etc. All the original rubber seals on this car are nice and not dry rotted or ripped. The chrome on the front vent window surrounds is the nicest I have ever seen on one of these cars. The exterior door handles are also not all pitted as they usually are. The original jack is excellent and appears to have maybe been used once.Plastic light covers are intact and perfect inside trunk, light gaskets are very white and flexible, side marker retainers are new looking as are the rear shock metal/rubber plugs with the screws in the center and the gas tank vent tube is also like new. The trunk lid has 2 dents from the handles of a roto-tiller that the original owner used to haul in the trunk, hence the trunk rust and the tie-down clamp on the rear bumper, which I left on because I thought it was interesting and part of the cars history. There is some rust on the bottom of the quarters, the rocker to quarter lead seams, above the driver rear wheel well, and one lower fender (see pics). This is a factory undercoated (heavily undercated from the factory) car so underneath is very solid front to back. All door and trunk seams are super nice, doors have factory door edge gaurds still intact (and coded on build sheet). The usual rear window corner rust started on this car but has been arrested as the trunk was. Lead seam at the bottom of the drivers a-pillar failed and has been arrested also, again, see pics. Engine compartment is dirty, green paint is all very nice but has peeling paint on the engine and air cleaner as would be expected in a 42 year old car, front left valve cover gasket appears to have been leaking. That being said, the engine compartment is very original and intact except for the items mentioned earlier that were changed. Battery tray still has some green paint where the battery sits. Original battery cables are intact as is all original wiring, looms, etc. The original manifold cover for the heat transfer to the air cleaner is solid as a rock, not rotted or even heavily pitted, the tube to the air cleaner is even still solid and intact, easily removed and re-installed when I have the air cleaner off (which is when the original ones usually fall apart). Carb was rebuilt. Original points distributor is intact, no cut wiring there obviously, still has the 1970 spark/anti knock unit on the distributor. All the green paint in the engine compartment is very nice, no rust, no swelled spot welds on the inner fenders or shock towers, etc. no rust around the hinge mounting areas, see pics. Original emissions sticker was removed for some reason. Paint OK stamp intact, grease pencil numbers on valve cover intact also. The original 954 radiator is intact and in nice condition, this car has no cooling issues. One wiper is missing in a couple of the pics but it is on the car now. The e brake works perfect including the red dash light. I have the original dealership paper key fob with stock number, etc on it and the original keys also. I have driven this car over 3000 miles this last summer and would hop in it right now and drive to California with no reservations...OK, I would bring a small tool kit just in case. Hard to believe this car has been an Upstate NY car all its life and still lives within 50 miles of the town it was sold in.This car goes down the road very nice, maybe very slight play in the steering, but no rattles or noises and plenty of power, you can tell this car was not ragged on by the original owner. I would not even be selling it except I want to buy another car that has come up for sale. If you want an honest numbers matching 70 RR that can be driven right now and has not had any games played with it or with its numbers or anything else, here is your opportunity. If you restore this car, you will not have to spend a fortune and years searching out parts, just about all the date coded original parts and trim are intact and very useable condition as is with some restoration. Car comes with transferable NY registration in my name, which is considered title for a car of this age in NY, Must be picked up here in Sherburne, NY 13460 with all arrangements and costs taken care of by the high bidder unless other arrangements are previously made. SERIOUS BIDDERS PLEASE CALL WITH QUESTIONS 607-226-2883. If you get voicemail, leave a message and all calls will be returned. Sorry for the long ramble but wanted to give as much info as possible.
